Week Ten:
“Muffler” Mike Kostiuk:
GA @ COL
Colorado. Even with Dillon Ward out, Colorado has enough firepower to outlast a struggling Swarm team.
CGY @ HFX
Halifax. These teams are fairly evenly matched, but I have to give the edge to the home team.
NY @ TOR
New York. Going with an upset again – this Riptide team is better than their record indicates.
ALB @ PHI
Albany. The FireWolves have already beaten Buffalo and Halifax on the road, so why not a similar result in Philly?
ROC @ BUF
Rochester. No better way to recover from last week’s hiccup than to beat your biggest rival on their turf.
PCLC @ SD
Panther City. I believe in this Panther City squad despite the growing pains. This game is a chance to make a statement that you’re not going away, while reeling in the division leader.
SASK @ VAN
Saskatchewan. This pick might’ve been different if the Warriors had made this week’s roster moves 3 weeks ago.
COL @ LV
Las Vegas. Mammoth still don’t have Dillon Ward and are now on tired legs after a game 24 hours prior. Desert Dogs capitalize.
Shawn Slaght:
Georgia at Colorado
Pick – Colorado
The biggest wildcard coming into this week for Colorado is having Dillon Ward on the injured list. The Mammoth goaltending could be shaky but I feel there is enough talent to make up for it.
Calgary vs Halifax
Pick – Halifax
This could be a close game. Both teams are in scenarios where they can’t afford to lose. I still feel in some ways that Calgary is overachieving, so I have to give the edge to Halifax.
New York vs Toronto
Pick – Toronto
The past couple of weeks the Riptide have improved drastically since trading away Callum Crawford. Unfortunately, they are playing with the big dogs this week. New York will likely keep this one close, but they aren’t a top echelon team yet.
Albany vs Philadelphia
Pick – Albany
This could be an interesting one. I’m not sure what to make of the Wings now that they have Mitch Jones. He struggled with Vancouver, but he could be the key missing piece for a Wings team that should be much better. I feel like it might come down to goaltending and I’d give the nod to Jamieson over Higgins.
Rochester vs Buffalo
Pick – Buffalo
Without a doubt this was one of the toughest picks this week. The last time these two teams met it was a coin flip. I think Buffalo will want revenge, while Rochester is reeling from their first loss of the season.
Panther City vs San Diego
Pick – San Diego
San Diego is starting to gel together which is a scary thought for the rest of the league. Panther City will contend for a playoff spot, but I feel the edge is with the Seals.
Saskatchewan vs Vancouver
Pick – Saskatchewan
Yes, Vancouver went out and finally got themselves a goaltender in Aaron Bold. That being said, there isn’t much else in front of him. Trading Mitch Jones and releasing Justin Salt confirms the Warriors are rebuilding for next year. It’s the exact opposite for the Rush. They have their mojo back.
Colorado vs Las Vegas
Pick – Colorado
I’m picking Colorado, but teams should be leery of Vegas. They are improving each week. Similar to the Georgia game, I think Colorado is still a very good team even without Dillon Ward. It’ll again be their high-powered offence that will lift them to victory.
Gary Groob:
Georgia vs. Colorado
Colorado wins.
A rebuilding Swarm team isn’t much of a match against the defending champions. Although with Dillon Ward out, it does make it a much closer match-up.
Calgary vs. Halifax
Halifax wins.
Whatever ailed the Thunderbirds, they shook off against the Knighthawks. The Halifax team simply has too many scoring options for the Roughnecks to counter.
New York vs. Toronto
Toronto wins.
Toronto is feeling confident, while New York is looking for an identity again. Jeff Teat will have a big game, but it won’t be enough against a healthy, powerful Rock squad.
Albany vs. Philadelphia
Philadelphia wins.
Philadelphia bounces back after a few “wake me up” trades by Paul Day. Look for Trevor Baptiste to be dominant on faceoffs. Matt Rambo, and Ben McIntosh have big evenings in this one.
Rochester vs. Buffalo
Buffalo wins.
If the Bandits play a full 60 minutes, the last game was a victory as well. Look for JT to get his team focused on playing every one of the 60 minutes. Know that the Bandits have studied what worked last week in Rochester’s loss to Halifax.
Panther City vs. San Diego
San Diego wins.
Chris Origlieri has taken over the starting goalie job, and the entire team is that much more relaxed. Look for a high flying fast start to get PCLC on their heels early.
Saskatchewan vs. Vancouver
Saskatchewan wins.
Vancouver has made a few deals to try and fix the mess they are in, but that won’t happen overnight. The Rush are a good team, and this is going to be another long night for the Warriors.
Colorado vs. Las Vegas
Colorado wins.
Vegas is getting better, but these are still the defending champions! I think the Desert Dogs give a spirited showing but fall short.
Ryan McMichael:
Georgia vs Colorado
Colorado wins
Halifax vs. Calgary
Calgary wins.
New York vs. Toronto
Toronto wins.
Albany vs. Philadelphia
Albany wins.
Rochester vs. Buffalo
Buffalo wins.
Panther City vs. San Diego
San Diego wins.
Saskatchewan vs. Vancouver
Saskatchewan wins.
Colorado vs. Las Vegas
Colorado wins.
