Week Twenty:
“Muffler” Mike Kostiuk:
LV @ CGY
Calgary. The Roughnecks keep cruising, and hope for a little help from others to win the West.
SD @ COL
Colorado. The Mammoth know that even one loss moves them to the wrong side of the playoff picture. The West Division standings tighten up even more.
PHI @ TOR
Philadelphia. The Wings are running into the arguably the biggest buzzsaw at the worst possible time. But they need this game more than the Rock do.
GA @ ALB
Georgia. While I’m glad to see the FireWolves break their skid last week, I’d be a fool not to go with the hottest team in the league on this pick.
NY @ BUF
New York. Buffalo has made a habit in recent years of stumbling near the end of the regular season. The Riptide are not to be taken lightly despite their record, and give the Bandits a wake-up call.
HFX @ SASK
Saskatchewan. The Rush pen yet another dismal chapter in Halifax’s “season that should have been”.
PCLC @ VAN
Vancouver. The race for the final playoff spots becomes a free-for-all, as Panther City’s playoff hopes get postponed at least one more week.
Shawn Slaght:
Las Vegas vs Calgary
Pick – Calgary
First place isn’t out of the question for Calgary. They want home floor advantage throughout the playoffs. Vegas will keep it close. The biggest question is how hurt is Landon Kells?
San Diego vs Colorado
Pick – San Diego
The Seals are peaking at the right time. They finally look like the dominant team we were expecting and Frank Scigliano is looking good between the pipes.
Philadelphia vs Toronto
Pick – Toronto
Philly has a lot to play for, but I don’t think they are in the same league as the Rock. The Wings have been playing well, but need to find consistency.
Georgia vs Albany
Pick – Georgia
Albany’s win last week has made the Dyson Williams sweepstakes more interesting. My issue is it was only one game. They are going against the red-hot Georgia Swarm and need to prove it wasn’t a fluke.
New York vs Buffalo
Pick – Buffalo
If it weren’t for Jeff Teat this season would be even worse for New York. Buffalo has struggled as of late, but they are still in the battle for first.
Halifax vs Saskatchewan
Pick – Halifax
This is a tough one as both teams can’t put together a consistent effort. I feel it will come down to goaltending and I’d take Warren Hill over Alex Buque.
Panther City vs Vancouver
Pick – Panther City
I wouldn’t be surprised if Vancouver pulls off the upset. I think I have to go with Panther City as the favourites because they’ll want to make a statement heading towards the playoffs.
Gary Groob:
Las Vegas vs. Calgary
Calgary wins.
The Roughnecks are still mathematically able to finish first in the West. They are too powerful offensively, and too good in transition.
San Diego vs. Colorado
San Diego wins.
This team has gelled at the right time. Scigliano has been very good in net as well recently. Look for this to be closer than most would think as Colorado is still fighting for the playoffs.
Philadelphia vs. Toronto
Toronto wins.
Dawson, de Snoo, and Corbeil are all in the lineup for Toronto. While the Wings have played better, they still have lapses. Look for the Rock to capitalize on thise lapses.
Georgia vs. Albany
Georgia wins.
From 0-7 to 7-8. From scoring 9 goals a game and giving up 14, to scoring 14 and giving up 9. Georgia is scary good right now. They believe in each other and are playing that way. Albany played well last week, but I think the Swarm are hungrier.
New York vs. Buffalo
Buffalo wins.
The Bandits are still hoping to finish first. With Chase Fraser returning, and with Dhane Smith and Josh Byrne, the Bandits offense is lethal. Matt Vinc in net is going to be a tough foe for the Riptide.
Halifax vs. Saskatchewan
Halifax wins.
While both teams are still vying for a playoff spot, the Thunderbirds are a more rounded team. Buque has been inconsistant in net for the Rush, while Warren Hill has been more steady for Halifax.
PCLC vs. Vancouver
Panther City wins.
While the Warriors are capable of winning this game, PCLC needs it to stay in third place. With only a few weeks left to the playoffs, this team should be very motivated.
