2024 MLB Draft Deep Dive: Carson Benge, OF/RHP, Oklahoma State.

The 2024 MLB draft is set for Sunday, July 14, 2024, in Arlington Texas as part of the 2024 MLB All-Star Weekend festivities. The Phillies will pick at number 27 in the 1st round. Currently, the Phillies have 17 picks in the 2024 draft.

The baseball people here at EOP will keep you updated on the top prospects in this year’s draft. This week we look at our projected nineteenth player selection (pick owned by the New York Mets) in the 2024 MLB Draft Carson Benge, OF/ RHP, Oklahoma State.

Benge missed the 2022 season with Oklahoma State while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he hit and pitched in 2023 for the Cowboys. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound righthander posted a 6.69 ERA and struggled with control.

Through 10 starts and 35 innings, he also slashed .343/.466/.535 with seven home runs, 17 doubles, and more walks than strikeouts as a hitter. Benge has been up to 96 mph on the mound and throws a curveball, slider, and changeup.  His bat speed and pull-side power as a lefthanded hitter might give him greater upside as a position player and he has the speed and arm strength to play all three outfield positions—though the industry will continue scouting him on both sides of the baseball
