Action from opening Saturday in the IBLA. Just about every roster in the IBLA is highlighted by a former or current professional player and despite a 16-8 final score that had the Salt City Eels (1-0) dominating the Saugerties Night Pandas in Empire North play, this one had a few backstories to keep your interest.

The Eels had a familiar name in the nets. Gowah Abrams turned aside 24 shots with Abrams and the defense shutting out the Pandas for 33:00 en route to an opening game victory at Burnet Park Turf. An 8-0 second period was the lynchpin in this one. After scoring with 3:52 remaining in the opening stanza, the Pandas would not light the lamp again until 9:48 was remaining in the tilt.
Tommy Costanza led all scorers with a four-goal outburst. Luke Schwartin, Jordan Jarvis (psst…Mike Cooper), Wade Bucktooth, and Brian Witner each added a pair with a single from Dennis Rammacher and a hat trick from Gerald Johnson paced the offense for the victors.
Matt Johnson put three behind Abrams with Jose Gomez notching a pair. Nico Brands, Sam Miller, and Alfredo Martinez added a goal apiece for the Night Pandas. Neither team took advantage of the power play. The Pandas going 0 for 5 and the Eels striking out on four chances. Shots favored the victors, 37-32 with Ken Alteric turning aside 21 for the Pandas. It was action from the opening Saturday for the IBLA.
