Archers Win Pivotal Game Against Whipsnakes

The Utah Archers picked up a 16-11 win against the Maryland Whipsnakes in a pivotal game in week five of the Premier Lacrosse League.

Both teams came into the game in Boston, Massachusetts with a 2-2 record, and are looking to go above .500 the weekend before the All-Star game. 

First Quarter:

Grant Ament opened the scoring for the Archers at 3:18. Zed Williams replied for the Whipsnakes thanks to a pass from Matt Dunn at 4:20. TJ Malone scored to give the Whipsnakes the lead at 5:44. The Archers turned on the scoring thanks to Connor Fields scoring an unassisted goal at 9:04 to tie it up.

Tre Leclaire scored a 2-pt goal with help from Tom Schreiber at 9:45 followed by Matt Moore scoring an unassisted goal at 9:56. The Archers closed the scoring for the quarter when Moore scored at 10:38. The Archers would lead 6-2. 

Second Quarter:

The Whipsnakes’ Jake Bernhardt started the scoring with Levi Anderson assisting at 1:29. Archers had three consecutive goals to expand their lead coming from Mac O’Keefe at 4:08, Moore at 6:52, and Fields at 8:01.

The Whipsnakes finally replied with two goals from Matt Rambo at 10:36 and 11:09. However Archers would score the last goal with a quarter from Piper Bond at 11:59. Archers would walk into the half leading 10-5.

Third Quarter:

The Whipsnakes’s Adam Poitras opened the scoring at 1:38 but O’Keefe replied 2:26. The Whipsnakes’ Rambo had a powerplay goal at 5:36, with help from Williams.

Malone would add to the Whipsnakes’ score at 6:54, with an unassisted goal. Archers would start a three-goal run with Fields at 7:41, Dyson Williams at 8:28, and O’Keefe at 8:57. Archers would keep the lead 14-8 heading into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter:

O’Keefe opened the fourth-quarter scoring for the Archers with an unassisted goal at 1:05. Whipsnakes would start a offensive barrage with Williams scoring a natural hat trick. He scored at 2:50, on a powerplay at 3:57, and at 5:33. The Archers would score the final goal from Leclaire at 9:51 as Utah won a pivotal game by a score of 16-11.

Curros Corner:

It was a goalteding duel as Brett Dobson made 15 saves and Brendan Krebs made nine saves. Mac O’Keefe led the Archers in scoring with four goals while Zed Williams led the Whipsnakes with four goals and an assist. Joe Nardella got the better of Mike Sisselberger at the faceoff dot. Nardella won 18 of 29 draws, while SIsselberger won 11 of 28 faceoffs.
