Addition of 1st Baseman Carlos Santana, a couple of reliefs pitchers added to the ‘Pen, and not to mention a brand new ‘skipper’ in the Dugout are the Phillies looking to contend as early as 2018? All signs point to yes.
News coming out that the Phil’s are continuing talks with the Marlins for center fielder, Christian Yelich, it appears to be that Matt Klentak is ready to kick the tires and light some fires with this season’s upcoming roster. Although, you must ask once again, “How much is too much to part with?” Thinking you will be able to add a player of Yelich’s magnitude for under market price is just silly. With a very team friendly contract just north of 58 million owed over a possible 5 years of control, it seems fitting that the price tag for the center fielder may be too steep. But it’s fun to think about, right?
I, for one, will be very excited about a Yelich addition, even with a hit to the farm system. Some may even raise the question of who the top GM is now in Philly? Matt or Howie?
Possible 2018 Phil’s roster:
2B Cesar Hernandez
SS J.P. Crawford
CF Christian Yelich
LF Rhys Hoskins
1B Carlos Santana
RF Nick Williams
3B Maikel Franco
C Jorge Alfaro
