Arthur Miller Scores Game-Winner in Shamrocks Win Over Nanaimo

Arthur Miller scored the game-winner with 36 seconds left in the game as the Victoria Shamrocks picked up a 10-9 win over the Nanaimo Timbermen on Sunday night.

At one point in the first period, Nanaimo held a three-goal lead. However, Victoria continued to chip away to tie the game 8-8 after two periods.

Chris Origlieri picked up the win between the pipes for the Shamrocks, stopping 32 of 41 shots. Devlin Shanahan played the majority of the game for Nanaimo. He stopped 30 of 39 shots. Colby Bowman played 6:24 and stopped six of seven shots.

Once again, it was the King brothers that made the difference for Victoria. Marshal had a goal and two assists, while Jesse picked up three assists. Victoria has now won four in a row and remain one of two unbeaten teams (New Westminster) to start the WLA season.

An Early Lead For Nanaimo

Victoria got on the board first in the game at 2:39. Liam Phillips found Nick Preston for the shorthanded marker.

The Timbermen came right back with a run of four goals. Taggart Clark cashed in on the power play at 3:47 to tie the game. Jason Knox would then find the back of the net at 8:11 to give Nanaimo a 2-1 lead.

Knox struck again 1:11 later and Zach Manns rounded out the four-goal run at 10:25 to make the score 4-1 in favour of Nanaimo.

Tom Vaesen scored on the power play at 13:32 followed by Patrick Dodds at 14:03 as the Shamrocks quickly got themselves back within one.

Jon Phillips scored for Nanaimo at the 16:30 mark, but Marshal King would score for Victoria with 1:08 left on the clock to make it 5-4 in favour of the Timbermen.

Shamrocks Battle Back To Tie It Up

Victoria scored their second shorthanded goal of the game to open the second period. Miller found the back of the net down a man 30 seconds into the period.

Manns scored his second of the game at the 1:14 mark and Clark added a power play marker at 4:09 to put Nanaimo back up 7-5.

The Shamrocks would mount the comeback with a three-goal run. Cole Pickup took a feed from Chris Wardle at 6:43 to make it 7-6. Nick Preston would then score unassisted at 8:46 to tie up the game. Victoria would then take their first lead since the beginning of the first period when Denton MacDonald scored unassisted at 17:38 to make it 8-7 for the Shamrocks.

With 1:29 left on the clock, Phillips scored for Nanaimo to tie the game 8-8 heading into the third period

Arthur Miller The Hero For Victoria

It was a defensive battle to open the third period. It wasn’t until the 11:53 mark that Vaesen scored on the power play to give Victoria a 9-8 lead.

Back on the power play, Lukas Olsson scored for Nanaimo with 5:57 left on the clock to tie the game up 9-9 and it looked as if we were heading to overtime.

However, Arthur Miller had other ideas. He took a feed from Jesse King and buried it with 36 seconds left in the game to give Victoria a 10-9 win.
