We start things off with the Flyers, getting back into action, going against the New York Islanders. Ahead of the trade deadline, the New York Islanders got busy last week by acquiring Bo Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks and then signing him to an eight-year extension. The 27-year-old left-handed hot shot joins the islanders with 31 goals and 23 assists
The Action
The first opening period was battle-tested between both teams, defensively. up until nearly, the end of the first period when the Flyers made their second trip to the penalty box. Flyers had all four defenders on Josh Bailey and he made a nice pass to Kyle Palmeri who was left all alone and found the back of the net.

Second Period action! both teams are looking for more offensive firepower however it was The islanders adding to the scoreboard by winning the one-on-one battles. Brock Nelson in front of the net finds Matt Barzal in front of the net and makes a goal. Flyers would answer right back. Nick Seeler goes for a wrap-around then he finds Tony DeAngelo open at the blue line. Tony DeAngelo fires the puck through traffic Nicolas Deslauriers with a re-direct goal.

3rd period: Flyers would bring a lot of offensive pressure to the Islander’s goaltending but nothing would pan out for the Flyers. Semyon Varlamov stopped 25 out of 26 goals. no matter what the Flyers were trying to create offensively it was not good for this tough Islanders team. Islanders’ defense had significant zone coverages and the Flyers had no answers, especially with their power play unit. The flyers had a really sluggish start. This is not how you wanted to start, chasing a wildcard spot.
