Best For Business

The WWE finds itself in a thrilling situation where fans are divided over the direction of a storyline. Should the priority be given to finishing the storyline. Or should the focus be on the match that will generate the most revenue and attention, even if it means changing the existing story? The situation at hand revolves around the fate of Roman Reigns and his upcoming match at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. The decision-making process is complicated by the presence of Cody Rhodes. An immensely popular wrestler who was robbed of his championship title due to interference from outside parties at WrestleMania 39. On last Friday’s episode of Smackdown, a thrilling moment occurred when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise appearance. This appearance has opened up a new option for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.

Giving him the opportunity to potentially face off against one of the most iconic and legendary WWE superstars of all time. The current scenario has put WWE into a perplexing situation. On the one hand, they have invested a year’s worth of storytelling into the current plotline. On the other hand, there is an exciting possibility of Roman Reigns and the Rock locking horns. In what could go down as the most monumental match in the history of professional wrestling. WWE now faces the difficult choice of either staying true to its current direction or taking a bold step and giving fans a match, they have been eagerly anticipating for years. Let’s look at how both Cody and The Rock got into this situation of possibly facing Roman at WrestleMania.

The Tribal Chief -The Rock

The Anoa’i family has established itself as a legendary dynasty in the world of professional wrestling. The family tree boasts of producing some of the most renowned names in the industry. Including Roman Reigns and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Devotees of the TV show ‘Young Rock’. May recall a particular instance where The Rock fondly speaks about his younger cousin Joe, who goes by the ring name Roman Reigns. For the last three years, the WWE has been dominated by Roman Reigns, who has taken on the moniker of the “Tribal Chef” in reference to his place as the head of his wrestling family. Fans of the sport have speculated that such a title may not sit well with The Rock, who is regarded by many as one of the most iconic wrestlers of all time. So natural, the story for these two writes itself.

Rock vs. Roman for the title of tribal chief.  There were fans who had lost faith in ever seeing a match between The Rock and Roman. However, hope was reignited when Dwayne was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show last Friday, where Pat inquired about the possibility of the match. Dwayne confirmed that a match had been agreed upon for last year’s WrestleMania, but he and WWE were unable to reach a consensus on the storyline, which led to the agreement falling through. Dwayne stated they tabled the talk for a future date. Followed by hinting that there is a Mania in Philly this year who knows what can happen?  This got the fan’s stirring. Wondering if could we actually see this match. The hype grew even further later that night when The Rock returned to Friday Night Smackdown.

Finishing The Story

Cody Rhodes’ return to the WWE has been met with much anticipation from fans and critics alike. Many are intrigued by the story he wishes to finish. According to Cody, his ultimate goal is to become the WWE champion and make his late father proud. It is a goal that he was unable to achieve during his father’s lifetime. But one that he hopes to accomplish now. The determination and passion Cody shows toward this goal has made him a fan favorite. Many are eager to see how his story unfolds. The WWE fans were eagerly anticipating the conclusion of an ongoing storyline that involved Cody winning the Royal Rumble. Facing off against Roman in the main event at WrestleMania 39.

However, the storyline took an unexpected turn when the Blood Line interfered and prevented Cody from finishing the narrative. As a result, Cody has been facing challenging times. Trying to get back on track and finish the story as intended. Many fans believed that Cody would have the opportunity to complete his story at WrestleMania 40. After a year of hard work and effort. Cody’s journey back to the title would have made his victory all the more meaningful. When he finally raised the Championship Gold. It is uncertain if Cody will complete his story or if WWE will pivot to a Cody vs Seth storyline after the Rock enters the picture.

What Will They Do

The recent sale and merger of WWE and UFC has shone a light on WWE’s true nature as a business entity. While it may be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the entertainment, it is important to recognize that at its core, WWE is a company that operates on the principles of profit and growth. The merger with UFC only solidifies WWE’s position as a major player in the world of sports and entertainment, and highlights the incredible power and influence it wields in the industry. Taking into consideration the importance of the business, the WWE aims to make decisions that will benefit it the most. While a Roman vs Rock match may not seem like the most logical choice, the Rock has a strong ability to attract viewers and generate revenue.

In fact, during a recent episode of Smackdown, the Rock appeared unexpectedly and caused the ratings to increase by 24 percent compared to the previous week. As a result, last week’s Smackdown became the second most watched show of the year. Considering all the factors, it is clear that no fan would want Cody to be unable to complete the story. WWE, being a business entity, will naturally follow the money trail. A main event featuring The Rock and Roman Reigns, competing for the title of tribal chef, will undoubtedly be a money-making machine for WWE. It’s essentially WWE’s very own blank check.

Roman Vs The Rock

Roman vs The Rock has the potential to be of such magnitude that fans will ask where you were when you watched it. This could be bigger than Hogan vs Andre, Rock vs Austin, or even bigger than Hogan vs Rock. This would be this generation’s match you tell your kids about. I can’t see WWE passing up on a match of this magnitude for that reason if The Rock wants to fight Roman at WrestleMania 40.  The main event of WrestleMania 40 will be The Rock vs Roman.
