Bullpen comes through in a 4-2 win over Padres. That’s not a typo. The bullpen shut the door and Ranger Suarez picked up his first Major League save. A game that featured two rain delays, 2 hours at the start and 45 minutes in the 4th. Philadelphia trotted out their healthy lineup for the second time and won both games.
Manny Machado started the scoring with a two-run shot off Zach Eflin (6 innings, 3 hits, the two earned runs, a pair of walks, and a pair of strikeouts). The Philadelphia offense consisted of Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins. Harper got it 2~1 off What else? A solo home run. Hoskins followed with a solo dinger of his own before Harper stepped up again and put the Phils in front, 3-2 with a sacrifice fly. Hoskins got some insurance with an RBI double.
Time to get nervous as Eflin was discharged for the evening and the bullpen took over. Bailey Falter, Archie Bradley, and Ranger Suarez only allowed one hit between them with Suarez coming in to pitch the ninth and face the heart of the San Diego order. Go figure. Fernando Tatis Jr. Jake Croneworth and Machado all were retired without incident.
