The Philadelphia Eagles’ top priority come to Draft Night will be more on how to make the Defense Better and especially the secondary. Could South Carolina Gamecocks cornerback Cam Smith add depth and improve the secondary?

Who is Cam Smith?
Cam Smith is 6 foot and 188 pounds and a junior at the University of South Carolina. He attended Meade Senior High School in Fort Meade, Maryland, before his Senior Year, where he transferred to Westwood High School.
In his First Year as a Freshman at South Carolina in 2019, he had only three tackles that season. In his second season in 2020, he became a Red-Shirt Freshman and started three out of the eight games that season and recorded 16 tackles in the shortened season. The next year in 2021, he would play all 11 Games season and recorded 41 tackles and 3 interceptions. In 2022 Smith played 9 out of 11 games that season but didn’t play the last two games after suffering a concussion.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Scouts are comparing Cam Smith to cornerback AJ Bouye and say his anticipation is good off coverage. Another bright spot is the way he reads quarterbacks & wide receivers. He has been solid on-ball production during his career. Some area of concern is he drew a lot of penalties at South Carolina, but that could easily be fixed. Another growth area is when takes his foot off the gas.

For the Eagles, Cam Smith could be a second night Draft Pick in either 2nd or 3rd Round. Could working behind the vets of Philly down the road groom him to become a future cornerback for the Eagles?
