Carrigan and Pipher Come Up Big In Merchants Victory

The Brooklin Merchants (5-1) met the Owen Sound (2-2) in a return match from last week at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound, Ontario.

Brooklin won their last bout convincingly 17-10.  Devin Pipher (3g,3a), Parker Pipher (3g,4a), Kellen Pulera (3g,3a) and Christian Watts (3g,4a) had big games in the victory for the Merchants.  Jake McNabb (3g,1a) and Carter Moran (2g,1) led the way for Owen Sound.

The goaltending match-up had Lucas Coote in net for Brooklin facing Kaleb Martin in net for Owen Sound.

The teams went back and forth the entire first period with both teams grabbing the lead in a fast paced entertaining period.  Jake McNabb led all scorers with a hat-trick in the period.

Although Owen Sound started quickly in the second period with two quick goals, a five goal run by the Merchants changed the complexion of the game.  Owen Sound got one more before the intermission but were still trailing by two heading to the third.

The North Stars pushed hard to start the third period, scoring a pair of power-play goals to tie the game.  Zac Carrigan responded with a power-play goal of his own for Brooklin, which turned out to be the game winner.  An exciting period yielded no more goals, with the Merchants holding on for a 12-11 victory.

To The Game:

The Merchants opened the scoring with Zac Carrigan converting an Eddie Renaud pass at 2:18, but Jake McNabb answered blasting a Gordie Power feed just 0:46 seconds later.

Christian Watts gave Brooklin the lead once more, but McNabb stormed back with two more goals off Jordan McMillen feeds to give the North Stars their first lead of the day.

Devin Pipher tied the game on the power-play off an Eddie Renaud pass at 10:16, then regained the lead with John Wheller scoring in transition shorthanded off a Justin Bragg pass at 12:27.

The North Stars came back with Wyatt Barfoot firing a laser into the corner off a Hayden Summers-Thompson pass on the power-play at 12:38, then Brad Mozzacatto gave Owen Sound the lead again converting a Jordan Caskenette pass at 16:21.  Parker Pipher tied the game with a side arm laser off a Devon Pipher pass at 17:08.

Second Period:

The North Stars came out on a mission in the second period with Wyatt Barfoot scoring off a Jordan Caskenette pass at 0:32 seconds, followed by Gordie Power converting a Jake McNabb feed 0:15 seconds later to open a two goal lead.

Eddie Renaud got Brooklin within one, scoring on the power-play off a Devon Pipher feed at 1:47. But Power’s second of the period, also on the power-play, restored the two goal cushion at 2:43.

The Merchants kept pressing with Zac Carrigan scoring his second of the day off a Christian Watts pass at 4:24, followed by Trent Boyd converting an Eddie Renaud pass at 12:09 to tie the game once again.  Brooklin continued their run with Devin Pipher scoring a pair of goals, followed by Tyler Goodchild increasing the lead to three off a Parker Pipher pass at 16:45.

Jordan Caskenette finally stopped the Merchants five goal run with a blast off a Jordan McMillen pass at 17:15 to end the period’s scoring.

After two periods, Brooklin 11 Owen Sound 9.

Third Period:

On a five minute high sticking major to the Merchant’s Grant Breyo, Owen Sound made it count with Jordan McMillen scoring a pair of goals.  McMillen converted a Jake McNabb pass at 3:16, followed by wiring a Jordan Caskenette pass at 4:32 to tie the game.

Zac Carrigan responded for Brooklin on the power-play off a Devon Pipher feed at 5:55 to regain the lead for Brooklin.

Both teams went end to end throughout the period, but strong goaltending kept it a one goal game.
