The Eagles came out looking great with a 12 play 76 yard drive, capped with a Carson Wentz rushing touchdown. Eagles took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Now you might just want to BLACKOUT for a bit because it was an absolute mess. The Giants came back with a 39 yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate to tie the game 7-7. The following drive the Eagles get a field goal to make the score 10-7 early in the second quarter. Jalen Mills then intercepted a deflected Daniel Jones pass giving the Eagles the ball back. The Eagles drove into the red zone but a Carson interception negated any chance of a field goal. Giants running back Dion Lewis, came right back with a fumble which was recovered by Rodney McLeod inside the Giants 40. Jake Elliot squandered any hope of scoring with a missed 29 yard field goal late in the half.
HALFTIME SCORE – EAGLES 10 – GIANTS 7
After multiple 3 and outs, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones runs 80 yards to give the GMEN a first a goal. Wayne Gallman eventually pushed it in to give the Giants a 14-10 lead halfway through the third quarter.
Late in the third quarter, the Eagles drove 66 yards in eight plays only to come up short on 4th goal. Doug elected to go for it on fourth down instead of taking the 3 points. The Giants took over on downs and drover 75 yards in 16 plays taking 7:50 off of the clock. That drive was capped with a 2 yard touchdown pass to Sterling Shephard which gave the Giants a 21-10 with 6:17 to go in the game. Game Over Right?
CARSON CLUTCH TIME
Not with Carson Wentz as your quarterback. The Eagles were down 11 points with 6:17 minutes to go in the game. The game plan seemingly went out the window as Carson led a 6 play drive highlighted by a deep 59 yard throw to John Hightower which got the ball to the Giant 14 yard line. Carson Wentz hit Greg Ward on a 3 yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-16. The Eagles missed on the 2 point conversion on a very questionable Doug Pederson play call.
After an Evan Engram drop, the Giants were forced to punt which meant the Eagles would actually have a chance to win this game. The Eagles had a first a goal at the 3 yard line but a Jason Kelce facemask pushed them back to the 18 yard line. And then this happened:
The Giants had a chance to get 3 but that ended on a Brandon Graham strip sack and the Eagles escape with a 22-21 Win. Carson Wentz went 5-for-6, 121 yards, 2 TD, 158.3 rating on the final two drives. Many continue to question Wentz as the franchise quarterback but one thing you can’t question is the DUDE IS CLUTCH!
It wasn’t pretty but the Eagles move into first place of the NFC East with a 2-4-1 record. Next up is the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
