The Six Nations Chiefs (8-0) traveled to the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound to face the Owen Sound North Stars (0-8) on Saturday afternoon.

These teams had been heading in different directions.  Six Nations has beat all comers fairly easily to this point with an all-star lineup, and weren’t looking to slow down.  Owen Sound has struggled, but have made strides recently.  Tanner Buck (7g,9a), Jackson Webster (6g,9a) and Tyler Brown (5g,7a) have led the North Stars offense.

The goaltending match-up had Warren Hill in net for the Chiefs facing Kaleb Martin in net for Owen Sound.

The score isn’t indicative of how well the North Stars back end played.  Kaleb Martin made 41 saves, while the defense held the powerful Chiefs team to minimal opportunities.

The Chiefs weren’t going to be denied.  Led by Shayne Jackson (3g,3a), Austin Staats (3g,3a) and Eli McLaughlin (2g,3a) Six Nations controlled this game from wire to wire.  Warren Hill had another spectacular day in net making 42 saves on 44 shots.  The Chiefs win their 8th straight game 11-2.

To The Game:

After more than half a period of scoreless end to end action, Eli McLaughlin opened the scoring from in close off a Dhane Smith pass at 12:23.  Travis Longboat continued his great summer season converting a McLaughlin feed on the power-play 0:40 seconds later.

Kaleb Martin was brilliant in the North Stars net making 19 saves in the period.

After one period, Six Nations 2 Owen Sound 0.

Second Period:

The Chiefs continued their control of the game.  Shayne Jackson opened the scoring with a blast from the side of the net off a Dhane Smith pass at 7:48, followed by Austin Staats also finishing a Smith feed at 9:23.  Staats added another goal crashing the crease off a Shayne Jackson pass at 9:55.

Warren Hill was perfect to this point making 33 saves in the Six Nations net.

After two periods, Six Nations 5 Owen Sound 0.

Third Period:

Travis Longboat opened the third period scoring with his second of the game off an Austin Staats pass at 1:28.  Owen Sound finally solved Hill in net with a howitzer from Jackson Webster finishing an Andy Campbell pass at 1:46, to bring the score to 6-1.

The Chiefs answered with three quick goals.  Austin Staats blasted a Dhane Smith pass at 8:30, followed by Shayne Jackson’s second of the game off an Eli McLaughlin pass at 10:10.  McLaughlin then added his third of the night converting an Austin Staats pass at 12:22 on the power-play.

Tyler Brown got one back for Owen Sound off a Dante Kulas pass at 16:58, but Shayne Jackson’s third followed by a power-play marker from Dhane Smith with just 0:28 seconds left in the game ended the scoring.

Final score, Six Nations 11 Owen Sound 2.

Shots on goal favored the Chiefs 54-44.

The Three Stars:

1. Dhane Smith
2. Shayne Jackson
