Collison Results From Newark

AEW brought an action-pack edition of Collison to New Jersey this Saturday night.   AEW Collison was live Saturday night from Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey. Collision is a weekly live wrestling show for AEW. The show can be found Saturday nights live on TNT from 8-10 pm. AEW stacked the card for this edition of Collison being in such a major market. The fans in return thanked AEW for this by packing the Prudential Center and bringing the energy all night long.

Collison brought all the big stars of the brand this past Saturday night with names like CM Punk, FTR, Bullet Club, and Darby Allin appearing at the event. Collison is unlike anything fans have witnessed from AEW to date. This weekly event has a different feel from the rest of the brand. This different feel is a breath of fresh air to AEW. I had the pleasure of covering this amazing event as the official press for Edge of Philly. There were some key matches that stood out tonight and we will dive into them. But the true star of the night was the fans of New Jersey. They were loud and let their voices be heard all night long.

Main Event

At the show’s start, AEW had 3 matches announced for Collison. However, it didn’t take long after the start of Collison for a 4th match to be added. Collison started with Ricky Starks celebrating his big win in the Owen Hart Cup the previous week.  CM Punk felt cheated by how his match ended with Starks the previous week in the finals of the cup.  Came to the ring, to let his feeling be known to Stark.  After a back-and-forth promo between the men, Christian Cage’s music hit cutting a heelish promo on the city of Newark.

His promo was short-lived because Darby Allin cut him off.  After a lot of back and forth between all four men Darby laid out a challenge for the main event Christian Cage & Ricky Starks vs CM Punk & Darby Allin, all parties accepted, and the match was made official. By no means was this a five-star match. However, this match didn’t have to be. This was a fun match that had some good spots and kept the fans engaged. This match delivered sending the fans home happy. This bout went over 20 mins on time.  The ending of this contest came when Ricky Starks cheated by holding the ropes the same way he did the previous week against Punk. The matchup did a great job of continuing two storylines at the same time but also delivering a good event for the fans.

Is This The End

The Acclaimed alongside Billy Gunn for almost a year now have been one of the hottest acts in all AEW. Reaching heights due to this popularity of Tag Team champs. The group was smooth sailing, that was until recently. The Acclaimed turned their sights to the trio title. A belt held by the House of Black. An evil group that has looked untouchable as of late. A couple weeks back House of Black was able to defeat the acclaimed.

This defeat started raising questions for Billy Guns, as to whether he still has it. This week on Collison, House of Black was able to make quick work of Acclaimed.  Pinning Billy Gunn to end the match. After the match was over Billy Gunn took off his wrestling boots with a large outcry from the fans. Typically, in the world of wrestling when a wrestler leaves their boots in the center of the ring.  This shows they are retiring from in-ring competition. Fans and wrestlers alike were left shocked by what transpired.  So, the question now arises is this truly the end for Billy Gunn?
