Could The Eagles Draft a QB?

Could the Eagles draft a QB? They very well can and Malik Willis would be a solid choice. The Quarterback from Liberty University looks very impressive during his time in college. This would be the QB that Howie Roseman would like if he decides to move on from Jalen Hurts.

College Carrer

Auburn University

Malik Willis first committed to Auburn University. But due to lack of playing time Malik Willis would end up in the transfer portal. During his time at Auburn, he amassed 11 completions for attempts, 69 yards, and 1 touchdown. He would also rush for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Liberty University

Malik Willis decided to choose Liberty University after being frustrated at Auburn. But in 2019 he was redshirted and did not play for the season. In the COVID-19 shorted 10-game season, he put up 2,250 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Willis would also rush for 944 yards (leading all FBS Quarterbacks) and 14 touchdowns. Malik Willis would help lead Liberty University (9-1) to the Mortage Cure Bowl, playing against undefeated Coastal Carolina. Liberty would win the bowl game 37-34.

The 2021 season would be a bit lackluster for the Liberty and Malik Willis. The team would only go 8-5 for the season. Meanwhile Willis would throw for 2,857 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He would also rush for 878 yards and 13 touchdowns. The team would get a bowl appearance playing Eastern Michigan in the LendingTree Bowl. In the bowl game, he passed for 231 yards, 3 touchdowns, rushed for 58 yards, and two touchdowns winning the MVP.

After the steller two seasons at Liberty University, Malike Willis declared for the NFL draft.

Draft Profile

Many draft experts believe Malik Willis has what it takes to play QB and could be a first-round pick. Listed as a dual-threat quarterback, Willis can use his rushing abilities and a cannon of an arm to make great plays. He has the capabilities to test opposing safeties and take shots down the field. Willis can also work very well in the RPO system and read what to do with the football.

While there are a lot of upsides with Malik Willis, there are some downsides. Some experts say he holds on to the ball too long and forces play. His accuracy drops when throwing on the run. Ready to runway too quickly then take the pressure in the pocket.

Why Should the Eagles Pick Him?

IF Howie Roseman isn’t so sure with Jalen Hurts, this could be the guy. Willis has been rising up on draft boards and is expected to go in the 1st round. The Eagles still have two first-round picks (15 or 18) and could use one of them on a quarterback. Howie Roseman has also said previously in the past that this team is a “QB factory”. Malik Willis could be the guy Howie Roseman could pick to replace Jalen Hurts at Quarterback. The question will always remain, “Could The Eagles Draft a QB”?
