Could the Eagles Trade for Clowney?

The Houston Texan, Jadeveon Clowney, is currently holding out from training camp looking for a new deal. Can you blame him? The Texans pulled a shady move and decided to franchise tag Clowney as a Linebacker instead of a Defensive End. This cost him around 1.7 Million in Salary. Here is where the Eagles come in.

The Eagles are widely speculated to be a frontrunner if the Texans decide to trade Jadeveon. I, personally, don’t see it happening. With Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, Vinny Curry, Josh Sweat, and Rookie Sharrif Miller currently on the roster, adding Clowney just doesn’t seem like an “Eagles” type move. Houston would be looking for a King’s Ransom added to the fact Clowney wants BIG MONEY on a long term contract.

If and when Howie does add depth to this already monstrous defensive line, I think the more realistic move could be Muhammad Wilkerson. Wilkerson played college ball at Temple right here in Philadelphia. Temple Owls home field is Lincoln Financial Field. Not that any of that is a major factor, just a happy coincidence. Muhammad right now is in a little bit of legal trouble for a DWI back in June.

There are few other names of interest still on the market. Former Charger, Corey Liuget, would be solid depth signing. A reunion with Bennie Logan could also possibly happen. There really is no telling where the Eagles front goes next to add depth to this defense. High compensation in a trade and a boatload of money on a long term deal for Clowney isn’t the answer. Think small and dream big. Just don’t get your hope’s up.

Yeah I agree. I don’t see this happening and I certainly wouldn’t take away from a stacked offense on paper for him. I heard Agholor named involved but I think he needs to stay put in the 3 or 4th receiver spot because that adds to the matchup nightmare this offense can give to defenses.
