The 2023 Philadelphia Dawgs. Howie Rosman has truly taken that saying to new heights today. Making a trade that was totally out of left field. Bringing home Philadelphia local and St. Joe’s Prep product D’Andre Swift. Can you guess where Swift went to college? If you said Georgia, you would be correct. In total, Howie has added 4 Dawgs to the roster in the past 3 days.
The Philadelphia Dawgs are looking to make it back to the Super Bowl and win it this time. This deal was a no-brainer for Howie and the Philadelphia Eagles. Giving up as 2025 4th round pick and essentially swapping 2023 7th round picks. A relatively small price to pay for a top-tier running back when healthy. There was a need for a three-down back in the Eagles’ backfield with the departure of Miles Sanders. Sanders signed a new contract with the Panthers in free agency.
How It All Went Down
Swift was expandable for the Lions when they selected running back Gibbs with the 12th overall pick out of Alabama. A pick that shocked a lot of people due to the fact that the Lions had Swift and also picked up David Montgomery in the off-season. We now see why this pick was made.
The Lions had plans of moving on from Swift. Swift is a great runner who can do it all out of the backfield. He is a great pass catcher. A guy who can make you miss in the open field. A player that, as the legendary announcer Gus Johnson says, has “get away from the cop speed.” He is a great running back when he is on the field. Injuries, unfortunately, have played a huge role in Swift being traded.
The Good and Bad of Swift
Swift has been in the league for three season now and has missed a total of ten games over that time. In the NFL, the best ability is availability. Unfortunately, D’Andre Swift’s durability has been questioned at times, something that has hindered him all the way back to his days playing for the Dawgs. However, the small price Howie had to pay to make this move was more then enough to take a swing on this risk involved to get a 3 down back in Philly. Howie has shown time and time again he isn’t afraid to move draft capital to improve this team, and this trade shows that. Fans wanted Bijan Robinson. I think the Eagles faithful will be more then happy with this consolation prize of the local Dawg D’andre Swift.
