Eagles find a Gem at Safety in the Mid Rounds

Eagles find a Gem at Safety in the Mid Rounds. Why does it seem like every offseason one of the Eagle’s biggest needs is Secondary. Well, that’s cause it is always one of the biggest needs each offseason. For whatever reason, Howie doesn’t pull the trigger on top cornerback or safety early in the draft. And it shows each season.

This year’s draft is loaded with talented secondary plug-and-play players for the Birds.

The Eagles are linked to some of the top cornerbacks in the draft that will start flying off the board early to mid-first round. Eagles own #15 & #18 (Saints pick). For this article, we are gonna focus on one of my favorite safeties that could slip to the Eagles in the mid-rounds of the NFL Draft.

Auburn University, Safety: Smoke Monday

Born Quindarious Monday, the nickname ‘Smoke’ came from his Grandfather at a young age.

“I used to just run around the house, so he started calling me ‘Smoke,’”

Where There is Smoke

Sitting at 6’3″ 200lbs, Smoke has the length I personally like at safety. He is a physical guy who can playback or up in the box depending on which scheme Gannon wants to run. He is an alpha male out on the gridiron who just loves to play the game.

Monday finishes his collegiate career with a total of 171 tackles, 6 sacks, and 3 pick-six touchdowns.

Just to be fair and name a few weaknesses, Smoke isn’t the most fluid in his backpedal. He only ran a 4.5 40-yard dash so he doesn’t have top speed. He looks a step too slow in coverage transitions.

“When all his teammates were opting out of their bowl game, Smoke opted in because he couldn’t imagine not playing in an extra game. I want those kinds of guys on my field.”

Does He Fit in Philly?

Darius Slayer of course is locked in for CB#1. Avonte Maddox was extended last season to lock in the nickel corner position for years to come. Anthony Harris has signed a one-year deal to occupy a safety spot for 2022/23. K’von Wallace unfortunately can’t seem to stay healthy.

The Eagles need to address their CB#2 and second safety spots. Smoke Monday in the mid-rounds of the 2022 Draft to address safety, a player with a high ceiling and endless potential. Is a really solid player to start to develop. Sign me up!
