Who would have thought that the Flyers from the beginning of the season, not having the superstar Johnny Gaudreau aka Johnny Hockey, and Veteran star player Sean Couturier in this lineup that this team would be sitting at 4-2. It all comes back to square one. John Tortorella. He’s doing a fine job of changing the culture on the ice and off the ice. John Tortorella said that there will be no Captain on this team. The last time that the Flyers went into a season without a Captain was 92-93.
They had Rick Tocchet as their captain in 92 but only played 42 games then got traded to Pittsburgh Penguins for Mark Recchi. Flyers went on to have 36 wins, 37, losses, and 11 overtimes total of 83 points. Finishing 5th in the Patrick division under coach Bill Dineen. Fast forward time and also this is the first number 28 Claude Giroux isn’t under the orange and black as a captain. He spent nine years as the captain. However what is clicking in this locker room currently? John Tortorella said to his team look across the parking lot…talking about the Phillies. It’s all coming into focus.
Early Returns are Positive
He said that could be us…it’s a long stretch however we can get there. The only downfall to this team that I see is them falling on back-to-back games other than that there pretty strong. Carter Hart has a decent defense in front of him. Carter Hart has Goals against an average of 1.75. 5th in the league. SV. The save percentage is .949 third in the league. Kevin Hayes has been on an upswing so far. Leading the team with 8 points and he’s 6th in assists. So there’s no real identity to this team, however there playing with house money. It’s all coming into focus.

Guys like Travis Konecny have stepped up big time while Sean couturier is on the shelf! Look at some of the Flyer’s wins so far. Beating teams like Predators a west conference playoff team, going to Tampa bay, and knocking off the Eastern Conference champs. I know I can speak for my broadcast partner Mike Lauro and I wasn’t on board with the hire of John Tortorella getting the head coaching job however listening to him speak at recent press conferences one thing is sure he’s honest with people. And that’s all we can ask for. The bottom is this if you can’t see for yourself that this team is heading in the right way well glasses may be in your future and not the orange and black kind.
