After months with no live sports and some exhibition games, we have real meaningful hockey. The Flyers beat the Bruins in the bubble on the way to the cup. The game started more technical and less physical until the midway point of the 3rd period. Let us break the game down.
The first period of this round-robin style hockey was scoreless making the goalies the stars of this period. Carter Hart stopped all 12 shots on goal looking sharp as we were used to seeing prior to the shutdown. Flyers showing their dominance on the faceoffs winning 57%. 0-0 at the end of the 1st.
The offense begins to spark in the 2nd period. At the 5:33 mark, Michael Raffl scores on a backhand shot with the assist from Travis Sanheim. Only 4 minutes later Nate Thompson sends a bullet into the top corner with the assists by Raffl and Provorov. Philly was not able to escape the 2nd period leaving a goose egg on the Boston side of the scoreboard. Chris Wagner scores with 69 seconds left in the 2nd period. Philippe Myers was not taking that goal lightly. Only 8 seconds later he throws a puck into the back of Jaroslav Halak’s net. 3-1 Flyers at the end of the 2nd.
Philly keeps its foot on the pedal in the 3rd period. The hero of the Pengs exhibition game, Scott Laughton, scores in just 4 minutes of the start of the period. The assist came from Kevin Hayes. Things began to get chippy towards the end of the game. Michael Raffle takes a nasty spill into the boards and is assisted off the ice. (Check back for updates). Laughton and Lauzon both get a pair of 10-minute misconduct penalties. More penalties and fights breakout.
Flyers Beat the Bruins in the Bubble
It may be in a bubble and it may be in Toronto but still feels so go when the Flyers beat the Bruins. The Flyers youth shines in today’s game. The Penalty kill was on point. Carter Hart is one of the stars of the game. He only allowed 1 of the 35 shots on goal through in his playoff premier. Especially at the end, Hart stonewalls the Boston onslaught. The stats speak for themselves. 16 block shots, 8 takeaways, and perfect on the PK.
