After the NHL Christmas break, the Flyers found themselves as the last team to resume play. A west coast trip a familiar trip for Flyers fans at this time of the year was the reason for their late start. First, stop San Jose Ca and the Sharks. The Sharks entered play on Thursday night in a similar shape as the Flyers 11-19-6. Both teams are in a transitional period in their organization.
On To The Game
Last night the Flyers as the script of the 2022-23 season has gone so far found themselves down in the first. Tomas Hertl scored his 12th of the year at the 9:38 mark of the first. The Flyers would find the back of the net about a minute later. Travis Konecny would score his first of two goals (16,17) of the night to tie things up.

In the second period, the Sharks would push themselves up at the 8:29 mark of the period Tomas Hertl his second of the night would put them up 2-1. That would be your score heading into the third. Sam Ersson making his second start of the year due to the confusion surrounding Carter Hart’s injury. Ersson was solid for the most part as he responded to a lackluster debut against the Canes. Ersson faced 28 shots Thursday night stopping 25 of them for a .893 save percentage.

In the third, the Sharks would build a two-goal lead less than a minute into the frame. Kevin Labanc would tally his 9th of the year at the 0:52 mark of the period. As it has been the script for Orange and Black this year, they do have a comeback in them.
The comeback would start at the 5:57 point of the third. Owen Tippett scored his 11th to bring the Flyers back to within one. Then with the goalie pulled TK would strike again at 17:55 to tie things up at 3-3 his second of the night.
That would be how regulation ended at 3-3. In the overtime, the Flyers have been a train wreck. Entering last night’s game, the Flyers are 0-7 in OT games this season. Make that 1-7. Owen Tippett started it all with a beautiful outlet pass spring Provy and DeAngelo on a 2-on-1 break.
Provy pulled the goalie all the way to his side then fed the puck back to DeAngelo who finished a textbook 2 on 1 goal. The OT winner at the 1:10 mark of the frame. DeAngelo’s 7th of the year.
