Flyers Drop Another to the Islanders

Flyers playing some desperate hockey tonight. It is a crucial victory because going down 3-1 to the Isles could be a tough mountain to climb. A good luck charm for Philly in Oskar Lindblom returns to the bench for the first time since being diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Can Philly shutdown Anders Lee and will Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek step up tonight? Flyers Drop Another to the Islanders and back themselves into a corner.

Period 1

The Flyers start game 4 like game 3. Fast skating and taking shots on uncharacteristic turnovers form New York. Dueling roughing minors brings on 4 on 4 hockey. Flyers continue to struggle on the power play. On the opposite side, the Flyers penalty kill caused struggles for the Isles. Brian Elliot with some amazing saves. fourteen shots on goal and fourteen shots stopped. The period ends scoreless.

Period 2

The second starts with some missed opportunities but a few more shots on goal. The New York strikes first with a goal off the shoulder of Elliot. Brock Nelson scores to the stick side of the Philly netminder with an assist from Bailey. 1-0 Islanders. Sean Couturier redirects puck off the shot from Voracek in front of the New York netminder, Thomas Greiss, to hit the back of the net. Philly ties the score at 1-1.

After the goal, it is all Philly. The Islander’s defense is able to survive the onslaught of shots on goal (which is a significant increase) sending the game tied at the end of the second. 24-21 favoring the Flyers. (That 17 shots in the entire period) Hopefully, Philly can continue to you this energy into the third.

Period 3

The Islanders find the lead again in less than 8 minutes into the third. Jean-Gabriel Pageau throws the puck at Elliots five-hole and with some follow up it leaks into the back of the goal. Mayfield and Toews with the assists to bring the score 2-1 New York. Not much later the Islanders strike again with a two on one score making it 3-1, Islanders. Brock Nelson makes it two for the night. The Flyers continue to fight and Elliot is pulled for the extra skater. Provorov gets one passe with 65 seconds left. 3-2 New York still leads. Some fireworks at the end but the Islanders take the win. They lead 3-1 in the series.

Flyers and Islanders are 0 for 1on the power play. Penalty Infraction Minutes are 4 for Philly and New York. The face-off win percentage favors the Isles at 55%. Blocked shots are 19 to 7 favoring the Islanders. Hits are 39 to 35 with the Flyers bringing the most. New York tallied up 33 shots on goal and Philly racks up 38.
