Flyers Go Duck Hunting and Win, 2-1

The Philadelphia Flyers (21-12-5) continued their road trip and went to Anaheim to face the challenge of the Anaheim Ducks (16-18-4) in the next to last game of the 2019 portion of the season.

Anaheim would strike first when Erik Gudbranson buried a pass from Adam Henrique for his 3rd on the season. Just :35 elapsed and the Ducks had the edge.

Philly would get it even when Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek worked the puck to Sean Coutourier who buried it behind netminder, John Gibson. The goal came at 9:45 and was Coutourier’s 10th of the campaign.

That would be the end of the scoring in the regulation time frame and the clubs went to extra time and with just 2:07 remaining, Voracek went back on the attack and set up Kevin Hayes for his 12th to earn the win.

Blue Lines: Philadelphia finishes the 2019 portion of their schedule when they face the Los Angeles Kings on New Year’s Eve.

Brian Elliott stopped 27 of the 28 shots the Ducks fired and his counterpart, John Gibson was a tad busier, stopping 33 of 35 Philadelphia chances.

Neither team capitalized on the man advantage and Philly went 0 for 2 with the Ducks, 0 for 4.

The Flyers had the edge on Face offs, winning 61%. Claude Giroux was outstanding, winning 15 of 21. Coutourier added 6 of 9.
