Flyers Lose in Shootout

Flyers lose in Shootout, 3-2. In an ongoing saga, the Philadelphia Flyers dropped a heart breaker in the shootout to the New York Islanders. The Flyers now face two absolute “must-wins” Monday and Tuesday against the Boston Bruins.

Trailing Boston by 4 points is literally do-or-die time. Despite the shootout loss, some glaring positives can be taken. Captain Claude Giroux.. was a force the entire third period with a beautiful backhand top-shelf goal and nasty wrister to get it knotted up at 2-2.

More eye-catching was Giroux doing some celebrating after the tying goal. It was a very uncharacteristic display. It is good to see some emotion from anyone on this team, especially Giroux

Another eye-opener was the return of Carter Hart. He clearly played with much more confidence and his glove hand, which has been part of his downfall, was lightning quick. He was credited with 22 saves but it seemed more like 50.

We also saw the debut of Tanner Laczynski which prompts me to think, Chuck Fletcher will be bringing in some of their prospects.
Of course, without two wins Monday and Tuesday, the fire sale may be starting. As bleak as it was, there is still a flicker of hope. Certainly, we will have an answer on the playoff future in about 72 hours. Flyers lose in Shootout to the Isles.
