Flyers Lose Tight Contest to the Canes

The Philadelphia Flyers looking to bounce back from Saturday’s game, losing to the Anaheim Ducks 7-4. Frank Vatero would record a hat trick in that matchup, leaving a bad taste in the Flyers’ mouth. The Carolina Hurricanes, coming off back-to-back wins over the Seattle Kraken in overtime and a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks, were looking to continue building momentum.  Unfortunately, the Flyers would lose this tightly contested match-up against the Canes, 3-2.

1st Period: Getting Energetic

Hurricanes got on the scoreboard early with a goal from Stefan Nosen. After that goal, the Hurricanes were just outworking Philly for the majority of the period on both sides of the puck. The Flyers defense was struggling in their own zone, and they couldn’t generate anything offensively.

Late in the first, Sean Couturier caused Jordan Martinook to cough up a turnover, and Owen Tippet picked up the loose puck for a breakaway goal. Not too long after that, Garnet Hathaway, the former Boston Bruin, gets his first goal of the season from Nick Delosire on the assist. The Flyers would end the first period 2-1.

2nd Period: Tie Things Up

The second period would see a lot of back-and-forth action between the Flyers and the Hurricanes. Both teams tried to get things going. Just when it looked like the Hurricanes were going to score. John Tortorella challenges the play for an offside. The officials confirmed that there was an offside and washed away the goal. However, later in the period. The Hurricanes would get a powerplay opportunity. Michael Bunting scores from the faceoff circle. Tying knotted up at the end of the second period, 2-2

3rd Period: One Second Changes Everything

A goalie showdown of Carter Hart vs Fredick Anderson ensued in the third period. Both goalies saw a lot of action coming at them tonight. The Flyers had 5 power play opportunities to get on the scoreboard. The Hurricane defense and Fredick Anderson did not allow a goal in the third period. Carter Hart, on the other side, stood his ground as he stopped 31-34 goals.

It was late in the third, and Teuvo Teravainen put himself in position. The Flyers defense took their eyes off Teuvo Teravainen. It was one second too late before Teuvo Teravaien made a goal that took the air out of the tire of the Flyers. Teravaien coming into South Philly red hot after getting a hat trick off the San Jose Sharks. The Flyers fall 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Flyers are scheduled to practice Tuesday in Voorhees, New Jersey before they wrap up their homestand Wednesday against the Sabres.
