Eagles vs Lions Week 3 Gameday Preview

God I Love the 1PM Game! Philadelphia Eagles at home against the Detroit Lions. The Eagles are now 4.5 point favorites coming down from 7 which is not a good sign for birds fans from a line movement standpoint. The question around town is the slow starts but the question for me is how are we going to cover the Lions wide receivers?

Eagles Defense vs Lions Offense
I certainly wouldn’t call the Lions offense potent yet but they definitely have players on paper that can put points on the board. Darrell Bevel is the new offensive coordinator and it seems the team is still feeling their way with his offense. Listen with a wide receiver cast of Kenny Golladay, Danny Amendola and Marvin Jones, Jr. there really shouldn’t be any issues throwing the football. Especially, with the how bad the Eagles secondary has been so far this season. The Lions have more weapons at running back (Kerryon Johnson) and tight end (TJ Hockenson) as well so the Eagles defense has their work cut out for them. I am not sure what Jim Schwartz scheme is this week but they are going to need to dial up pressure to have Stafford make some mistakes. Derek Barnett is going to need more quarterback hits and hopefully some actual sacks if the Eagles stand a chance this week. Who knows maybe they will actually cover the receivers this week?

Eagles Offense vs Lions Defense
Guess what? The Eagles can have a slow start again and still win the game. We all would prefer that not happen but it very well could AGAIN this week. Do you know what can’t happen? Isaac Seumalo acting in as a turnstile again this week. He was another tough matchup with going against Damon Harrison and A ’Shawn Robinson. The Eagles will be without Desean Jackson this week and possibly Alshon Jeffrey so this will be a big Carson Wentz game for me. I think the Eagles are going to need to establish a running game to keep the defense honest this week but ultimately this is going to have to be won through the air. The Lions have a weakness at linebacker so the using the tight ends along with other crossing routes over the middle and underneath should be something the Eagles want to attack. They could dink and dunk the Lions and once they are sleeping on it take that show down field.

Special Teams
The Lions special teams has been dreadful to say the least. It was been filled with penalties and turnovers so all fixable stuff. This could be an avenue the Eagles could take advantage of in the field position battle.

Final Score Prediction
I can see a ton of yards in this game but the over under is 45 so I think it will hover around that area. Eagles 24 Lions 21
