The Philadelphia Eagles open up the regular season 1 PM at Lincoln Financial Field against the Washington Redskins. This rivalry goes all the way back to 1934 with the Skins leading the series 86-78-6. Historically, this game always seems to be close for the most part but the Eagles are now up to 10 point favorites. This would make most think it could be a blow out but I think it ends up being closer to the point spread.
Eagles Offense vs the Redskins Defense – The Eagles offense should be one of the greatest we have seen in franchise history this year. They are going to be a matchup nightmare across the board. My concern today is rust from not playing the preseason which could cause a slow start and constant push rush today. The only strength for the Redskins is their defense and Ryan Kerrigan has 11.5 sacks in 16 career games against the Eagles. Also, they have Josh Norman and Landon Collins in the secondary.
Redskins Offense vs the Eagles Defense – The Redskins offense is atrocious even when healthy and they are not healthy at all. The Redskins offensive line is in major trouble and the quarterback is Case Keenum. Straight up had to google who the wide receivers are this season. Some of the starters haven’t played much in the preseason but the Eagles defense should dominate today. This is the perfect matchup to build some momentum to start off the season. Expect sacks and turnovers!
Special Teams – My gut tells me Dustin Hopkins misses a Field Goal today. I don’t expect special teams to be a major factor today but you never know when a punt return can shift the momentum of a game. Either way I do not think that would change the outcome of a game like today.
Ultimately this is a fairly easy Eagles win today after the birds knock off the rust. The Eagles offense has way too much talent to be shutdown and the defense should have a field day.
Final Score – Eagles 27 Redskins 16
