The regular season is behind us. The shutdown is over and the bubble is working. The Philadelphia Flyers swept the three top teams in East in the round-robin. This was an amazing run to watch but that is over. It all starts tonight. Hart leads the Flyers to victory over Montreal Canadiens. Giving them 1-0 series lead in the first round. Seeding means nothing in the playoff, especially in the National Hockey League. Ask the Tampa Bay Lightning. Let get down to it:
1st Period
It was a quiet start to the period for the first half. That changed about halfway through the period. The keys to the game were getting other Flyers scoring and to capitalize on power plays. Ivan Provorov did just that. He sends a slap shot right at Carey Price during the power play putting the Flyers up 1-0. Assists from Giroux and Konecny.
Things start getting chippy later in the first. In the last minutes of the period, Derek Grant had a scoring chance but was shoved from behind by Xavier Ouellet sending him into the net. Hab’s goalie, Carey Price, takes a couple of cheap shots and a scrum breaks out but no penalties were called. (Pretty interesting if you ask me) In the last seconds, both Montreal center Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Flyers right winger Travis Konecny pick up a pair of roughing calls that will bleed into the second period.
2nd Period
The second period would see a shift in energy and play towards the Habs. The Flyers seemed off-balanced and sloppy. Passing was off as well as puck control. The Habs out hustle Philly for most of the period. The Canadiens get on the board with a power-play goal from Shea Weber. Assists belong to Drouin and Gallagher. The power play was due to a holding call on Nicolas Aube-Kubel. The score was tied up in the dome.

The tie only lasted 16 seconds. Joel Farabee put the Flyers back up after playing his own deflection off Carey Price’s pads. Travis Sanheim with the assist. The true star of this period and probably the game continues to be Carter Hart. Making some amazing saves. The young star continues to shine in only his third NHL playoff game. Montreal leads in the hits and shots on goal category in the second. Flyers need to adjust in the third and stop turning over the puck.
3rd Period
The Flyers defense steps up their game and putting some protection in front of Carter Hart. Limiting the shots on goal on the young star. Some missed obvious calls from the officials. The Flyers seem a little more under control in the final period matching the Habs intensity. Carter Hart with a few game-defining saves with less than two minutes. Montreal pulls Price but the Flyers defense along with Hart hold on for the win. Philly fans are going to need a fresh pair of slacks after the final push from the Canadiens.
Hart leads the Flyers to victory tonight over the Habs. Carter Hart is obviously my star of the game. He had a .964 save percentage. He saved 27 shots on goal out of 28. Happy Birthday, Carter Hart. Enjoy your 22nd birthday as my star of tonight’s game.
