It was another action-packed week of sports action. You don’t have all day so let’s get right to it
NCAAM
I am quite certain there has never been a year like the current one with so much confusion, especially at the top. I mean does anyone want the overall top #1 seed going into this year’s tournament? Every week multiple teams forget the top 25 in the top 10 get upset. This weekend was no different Teams ranked number 2,6,7,9 @12 were all beaten. With number one Kansas squeaking out a win against an unranked team. A few weeks back the team at Edge put a wager on a sleeper that we discussed in one of these articles. Kentucky is quietly handling their business and was impressive again yesterday getting by #15 Auburn 73-66. Kentucky still sits at 18-1 and is worth a look to win it all. Although we still have a few interesting weeks to go. Kansas will hold on to that #1 ranking this week including them Kentucky can beat any team between Kansas and them in the rankings. The final week of the regular season tips off tonight. Get ready for. a wild ride.
NFL
The Combine is underway and lets the insanity of NFL GM’s putting more clout into a workout in shorts then three or four years of tape begin! Yesterday I read an article on how Cam Akers and Jonathan Taylor had great workouts and all of a sudden there were questions about who the number one running back was. I wish I was a GM and had to deal with colleagues who went by these qualifications. Let me be clear, D Andre Swift will be the best running back in this class. He was undervalued and underutilized in college. There were games I would watch Georgia play and sat in amazement at his lack of use. Georgia never knew what they had. No workout in shorts will erase the tape I watched on this guy. Georgia did him a favor keeping him fresh for Sundays.
NHL
Who is this team playing at Broad and Pattison? The home town Flyers completed a sweep of a home and home series with the New York Rangers scoring 10 goals over the two games. The Flyers are now holding the 4th spot in the Eastern Conference and have this guy watching closely again. You can get all of the action covered by the team at Edge who is a respected member of the Flyers press core. The Flyer’s next game is a huge matchup against the team ahead of them in the standings. They travel to DC on Wednesday to face the Capitals. If the playoffs opened today the Flyers would host the Penguins who currently sit in 5th. place.
NBA
What can I say about Brett Brown aside from PLEASE FIRE HIM! The Sixers were outmanned and should have been overmatched yesterday when they took on the Clippers but with 4 minutes left were right in striking distance. The final few minutes were a microcosm of the past few years. Brett Brown seemingly watching the action instead of taking part. While the Clippers ran different players I and out at each whistle Brown sat idle with no real height or length to get a rebound on the defensive end as well as leaving Kormaz on Kawai Leonard. The result was the Clippers never had to make adjustments and eventually outlasted a very game Sixers team 136-130. Shake Milton had a monster day while setting an NBA record with 14 consecutive three-pointers over the last two games. The Sixers were playing without both their stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and also without a coach. This team will not win with Brown I hope Elton Brand figures this out sooner than later. The Sixers continue a brutal west coast trip this week.
The Bucks continue to have a stranglehold on the East beating the Hornets 93-85 With 40 and 21 from the Greek Freak. The Bucks raised their record to an unreal 52-8 with a little over a month to go in the regular season.
PGA
Sungjae Im fired a 4 under 66 to shock the golf world and win the Honda Classic. Tommy Fleetwood started the day with the lead and started hot. But He bogeyed two of the final 4 holes coming in opening the door for the first time winner Sungjae. I’m will be a name to get used to as he won his first tournament at the age of 21.
XFL
There is a clear cut front runner after week four and its the Houston Roughnecks. This time it was the defense that shined with six takeaways in a thrilling 27-20 win over a very good Dallas Renegade squad. P J Walker was solid again in victory as the Roughnecks improved to 4-0.
In the other game, what is wrong with the DC Defenders? After outscoring their opponents 59-19 in their first two games they have turned around and been outscored 64-9 in their last two. Cardalle Jones looks confused and the play-calling from Pep Hamilton has been terrible. Dc was shut out yesterday by Tampa Bay 25-0 in an unwatchable game.
