A position that has changed a lot in my life comes into full focus for the Eagles in 2022. Entering the last year of his rookie contract Eagles running back Miles Sanders was once billed as the next running back for the next 10 years. Miles’s stock has dropped dramatically since his rookie year. Durability, ball possession issues, and ability to run in between the tackles have dogged Miles over the last two years. Upgrading and moving on from Sanders may be the better option than re-signing him at this point. A mid-round option could be Isaiah Spiller of Texas A&M.

Spiller a good-sized and slick running back who possesses above-average break-out ability from approaching defenders. He is a constant downhill attacker which suits the strength of the Birds O line. Spiller sees the field well and has a nose for gaining yards vs saving clock time a very underrated skill for today’s running backs. His build enables him to be a very good pass blocker solid pass-catching ability out of the backfield adds to his stock. Light on his feet and a burst, once he reaches the outside, makes Spiller an attractive mid-round draft selection for the Philadelphia Eagles.
NFL POTENTIAL SCALE 1-10
Spiller due to his size does have the potential to be an NFL three-down running back but a more realistic approach to this would be to use him in a rotational capacity his hands and willingness as a runner and blocker make him a valuable asset for a Northeastern Team. Durability is not the main issue but average break-away speed, and a continuing understanding of pass blocking assignments does limit his options. Spiller and his intangibles do suit the Eagle’s running back by committee methodology. NFL Potential 7
EAGLES POTENTIAL 1-10
We witnessed it for ourselves when the Eagles committed to the run, they were very successful playing to their greatest strength their O line. Spiller would be the perfect upgrade for Miles Sanders or at worst another piece to add to the backfield in 2022 to learn with Sanders and then take on the role full time in 2023. Eagles Potential 8

AND WITH 51st PICK IN THE 2022 NFL DRAFT THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES SELECT Isaiah Spiller
We all learned the hard way when Nick Siriani decided to go pass-heavy it was a nightmare. Drafting Spiller would help complete that room for 2022 and give the Birds a cheaper option in replacing Miles Sanders in 2023. Running backs are not what they used to be but here in Philadelphia, we have seen firsthand how important they still can be. For more NFL Draft coverage click here.
