Julian Carranza Cranks It Up In Portland

The Philadelphia Union ended their road trip on a good note, getting the Union’s first win of the season going up northwest and taking care of business in Portland against the Timbers. This Union was shorthanded by 6 major key players, including their starting goalkeeper Andre Blake. Julian Carranza would set the tone of this game with a header goal. Later in the match, Portland would give up two goals within ten minutes of each other. One goal was an offensive rebound, and Quinn Sullivan would find the back of the net. The other was from Julian Carranza, who got a nice pass from Mikael Uhre to Julian Carranza. Julian Carranza then recorded his second goal of the night.

Trouble In Portland?

After tonight’s loss to the Philadelphia Union, Portland is on a two-game losing streak. Last week, they lost 1-0 in Houston to the Dynamo. What has happened to this Portland team? In the post-game press conference, Eric Miller ( The Portland Timbers defender) said there is a lot of cleaning up to do defensively. Portland is trying to bounce back into the win column as they head up to Vancouver, which is also fighting to get back into the win column.

Building Momentum Coming Back Home

With a huge 3-1 win on the road against Portland, this is a huge confidence booster, and now building momentum heading back home and getting ready for Philly’s toughest challenge yet—Minnesota United, who’s undrafted. What does Jim Curtin (The Philadelphia Union’s head coach) do with the lineup? What formations will he have intact for Minnesota? This is going to be an excellent test for Philly. I can’t wait for Saturday afternoon when both teams collide at Subaru Park. If the Union can walk out with a win, things will definitely be looking up for Philly moving forward.
