Keeping At Arm’s Length

The Philadelphia 76ers had it easy for the last week and a half, playing against the bottom feeders of the NBA and facing the likes of the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons. Just when it looks like another day at the office for the 76ers to go cruising through this game in the first quarter, running the 3-2 defensive zone with Joel Embiid guarding, rotating from the top of the key and in the paint.

On offense, the 76ers were attacking the Chicago Bull’s defense. However, the Bulls made some huge adjustments by playing the 76ers game, grabbing boards, and playing well from inside of the paint. Nikola Vucevic and Coby White had a great night. Both dropped a combination of 47 points. Let’s point out how good this Bulls team played on defense. No one else had double-figure points besides Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. The Bulls were keeping the 76ers at arm’s length.

Doing Their Part

Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid are doing their part to contribute to the scoreboard. Tyrese Maxey dropped 29 points with 8 assists and 5 rebounds. He made 5 buckets from three-point land. He was wide open the first one, and Tyrese Maxey pulled up and drained from downtown. Maxey was finding his open teammates whether he was dishing to inside of the paint or outside to the perimeter. Joel Embiid puts up 40 points with 14 rebounds, another double-double. Joel Embiid was doing his part in the paint. Drawing fails, hitting his elbow jumper, crashing, and getting boards. He was just unstoppable.

The Wake-Up Call That The Sixers Need it

This was the reality check, the wake-up call that the 76ers needed. As mentioned earlier, other than Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey playing their game, they play nightly. The 76ers bench couldn’t get anything going. Even the beloved Kelly Obure Jr. was held at a stand-still in the first half regarding offensive production.

Tobias Harris spent over a half hour on the floor and only put up three points. Nicolas Batum has 27 mins and only 3 points. Hats off to this Bulls team for shaking up the 76ers. Let’s see if the 76ers will be ready to rock with the double big man set of Karl Anthony Towns and Rudy Godbert coming into South Philly alongside the number one ranked West Coast team, the Minnesota Timberwolves. This will be no day at the beach. Let’s see how the 76ers will respond.
