Lanchbury And Kew Have Huge Nights In Rock Victory

The Owen Sound North Stars (0-5) faced the Oakville Rock (2-0) at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Major Series Lacrosse action Monday night.

The Rock were coming off a come from behind victory over the the Peterborough Lakers last week, looking to build on it.  Owen Sound has struggled this season, and was looking to right the ship in Oakville on this night.

The goaltending match-up had Chase Cosgrove in net for the North Stars facing Troy Holowchuk in net for the Rock.

The Rock scored early and often in the game.  Led by Ryan Lanchbury 5g,3a), Andrew Kew (4g,6a), Josh Dawick (3g,8a) and Sam English (3g,5a) Oakville scored 19 goals en route to a 19-12 victory.

Owen Sound had their best output of the season with Cam Acchione (2g,2a), Steven Portelli (2g,2a), Jackson Reid (2g,1a) and Tanner Buck (2g,1a) leading the way for them.

To The Game:

The Rock scored early and often.  Andrew Kew opened the scoring off a Ryan Lanchbury pass at 0:31 seconds, followed by Marley Angus converting a Kew feed at 1:40. 

Cam Acchione got one back for Owen Sound off a Greg Elijah-Brown pass at 2:10, but was answered by Andrew Kew with his second of the night off a Luke Dawick pass at 2:40.

Owen Sound came back with a pair of goals.  Steven Portelli finished a Logan Monroe pass at 3:27, followed by Will Cecile blasting a Mitch Gustavsen feed at 5:09.

Oakville then answered with two of their own.  Sam English wired a Dalton Sulver pass low to low at 5:21, followed by Sulver himself converting a Josh Dawick pass 0:25 seconds later.  Andrew Kew’s third of the period came on the power-play off a Josh Dawick pass at 11:46, followed by Dawick himself finishing a Ryan Lanchbury pass at 16:13.

The North Stars replaced goalie Chase Cosgrove with Kaleb Martin

Oakville welcomed Martin to the game with three goals in 1:36.  Marley Angus scored his second of the game off a Josh Dawick pass at 17:50, followed by Ryan Lanchbury blasting a Sam English feed at 18:31.  Josh Dawick fired a laser from the outside off an Andrew Kew pass at 19:26.

Second Period

The North Stars opened the second period scoring with Jackson Reid finishing a Jonathan Peshko pass at 2:46, followed by Cam Acchione scoring his second of the night off a Tyler Brown pass at 5:58. 

Ryan Lanchbury got the Rock on the board off a Ty English pass at 6:56, but Jonathan Peshko answered off a Cam Acchione pass at 8:26.  Owen Sound continued the comeback with Tanner Buck finishing a Dante Kulas pass at 8:47, but Josh Dawick again blasted an outside shot off a Bill Hostrawser feed at 9:41.

Tanner Buck scored his second of the period for Owen Sound at 10:33, but Oakville answered with a pair from Sam English. His first goal was from in close off an Andrew Kew pass at 14:27, followed by a power-play marker again off an Andrew Kew pass at 15:26.

Steven Portelli got his second of the game off a Mitch Gustavsen feed at 16:11, followed by Jackson Reid finishing a Jake Gasperetti pass at 17:46.

After two periods, Oakville 14 Owen Sound 10.

Third Period:

The Rock got rolling in the third with Ty English converting a Callum Jones pass in transition at 0:41 seconds, but Jonathan Peshko answered on the power-play off a Cam Acchione pass at 5:39.

Ryan Lanchbury added a power-play goal off an Andrew Kew pass at 6:20, then a blast off a Josh Dawick feed at 8:01.  Andrew Kew continued the attack finishing a Luke Robinson pass at 10:36.

Greg Elijah-Brown scored for the North Stars off a Tanner Buck pass at 14:23, but Ryan Lanchbury answered with his fifth of the game off a Josh Dawick pass at 15:10.

Final Score, Oakville 19 Owen Sound 12
