Lehigh Valley Outlast Wilkes Barre- Scranton, 5-3

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (22-22-6) made the short trip to scenic Wilkes Barre-Scranton to battle the American Hockey League’s Penguins (24-18-3) in a Saturday evening battle.

The Junior Flyers opened the scoring with Ivan Ratcliffe getting his 4th of the season with assists dished to Gerry Fitzgerald and Tyler Witherspoon.

Lehigh Valley recorded the only second-period goal thanks to Kyle Criscuolo at 11:59.

The visitors were in the proverbial catbird seat with twenty minutes to play but kept the pedal to the metal to move it to 5-1 when Mark Friedman set the plate for Gerry Fitzgerald’s sixth of the season and with16:02 to play, the Phantoms went into cruise control.

The Baby Pens had no quit and Myles Powell and Jan Droog lit the lamp, but it was too little too late and the curtain closed on an impressive Lehigh Valley 5-3 victory.

Dis and Dat: The Pens actually outshot their guests. 41-32.

Lehigh Valley goaltender, Kirill Ustimenko stopped 38 shots while counterpart, Emil Laramie turned aside 27 of 32 Lehigh Valley offerings.
