National Lacrosse League (NLL) Retro Game Of The Week

A big thank you to the Buffalo Bandits for originally posting this game on their YouTube channel.

The Buffalo Bandits played the Portland LumberJax on Saturday, May 17, 2008 for the 2008 NLL Champions Cup at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY.

The Bandits (10-6) beat the Philadelphia Wings in Eastern Semi-Final 14-12, then the New York Titans 19-12 in the Eastern Final, on way to the Championship game.

Portland (6-10) beat the San Jose Stealth 18-16 in the Western Semi-Final, then the Calgary Roughnecks 16-12 in the Western Final, en route to this Championship game.

Buffalo had a stacked team with John Tavaras, Mike Accursi, Cory Bomberry, Mark Steenhuis, Delby Powless, and Dan Teat.

Portland was an exciting team with Dan Dawson, Ryan Powell, Brodie Merrill, Derek Malawsky, and Peter Morgan.

Matt Disher started in net for the Lumberjax against Mike Thompson tending goal for the Bandits.

The coaching match-up had Buffalo’s Darris Kilgour (who won three championships with the Bandits as a player, now looking for his first as a coach) vs. Portland’s Derek Keenan (who had success as a player in the Bandits organization in the MILL back in the 90’s).

This was a thriller of a game from start to finish, keeping the packed house on the edge of their seats all night!

Sit back, relax, and enjoy this game in it’s entirety.
