Navy Sinks Winless Lafayette

Navy improved their record to 6-2 while keeping a winless Lafayette at bay with a 14-10 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Midshipmen spread the wealth on the scoresheet as six different goal-scorers found the back of the net during a six-goal run in the second quarter that led to the victory. Jon Jarosz had a career-high four goals.

As for Lafayette, seven players scored their 10 goals including paris from Charlie Cunniffe, Cole Dutton and John Mathes.

It was Lafayette that got on the scoresheet first in the opening quarter when freshman attackman Charlie Cunniffe scored at 10:55.

Navy would fight back to even the score when Joe deLyra’s long shot bunged the twine to tie up the game.

The Leopards would regain the lead with goals from Macklin Fitzpatrick and Kalman Kraham to make it 3-1 until Navy’s Patrick Skalniak brought the Mids within one. The Leopard would retain their two-goal cushion on the transition effort by Cole Dutton at 4:03.

Navy scored back-to-back goals it finish off the first quarter to make it knotted at 4-4 after the first quarter.

Cunniffe would score again to open the second quarter, but after that Navy took over.

About 30 seconds later, Christian Daniel would pick up a rebound to start the six-goal run for the Mids. The other six goals were scored by James Flannery, Max Hewitt, Michael Foster, Jon Jarosz and Jack Sweeney.

The closest the winless Lafayette Leopards would get was within three goals, but they couldn’t solve goaltender Spencer Rees.

Navy now heads to Baltimore to face Loyola on Tuesday for the Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinals.
