No Offense, No Defense, No Kidding

On Saturday at Rogers Arena, where the Flyers took on the Vancouver Canucks and were trying to snap a three-game winless streak. Mission failed the Flyers behind another defensive misadventure, and no offense fell 6-2.

For the Canucks Elias Pettersson led the way with five points on the night, including two late empty netters. Anthony Beauvillier had two as well. Andrei Kuzmenko and Phil Di Giuseppe also scored for Vancouver.

Pettersson, for his part, downplayed his own performance and pointed instead at goalie Arturs Silovs, who was making his second NHL start and performed well in the Canucks’ net.

“We wanted to get the win for him. I think last game we didn’t defend good enough and we didn’t help him but he still kept us in the game and today I think it was a better effort, our defensive game was better,” he said.

On To The Action?

Five of the Canucks’ six goals were scored by Pettersson’s line. Pettersson has been playing much of the season with Kuzmenko, but Beauvillier only joined the team last week after a trade from the New York Islanders.

Their chemistry has been impressive, with Beauvillier getting himself to bright spots and also getting a bit of luck, like on the second-period power-play goal that deflected in off him from a Pettersson point shot, Beauvillier’s second of the game.

The Flyers Scot Laughton and Morgan Frost were the bright offensive spots for a Flyers team that may be fading down the stretch of the season. Next up for the Flyers is the Calgary Flames for a matinee on Monday afternoon
