Packers vs Eagles Week 4 Gameday Preview

Tonight the 1-2 Philadelphia Eagles travel to historic Lambeau Field to square off against the 3-0 Green Bay Packers. The Packers are favored by 4.5 with some calling this a must win game for the Eagles. An Eagles loss would drop them to 1-3 not only overall but in the conference as well which could have major playoff tiebreaker implications. The Packers are very tough to beat at home while Doug Pederson, who has a long history as a player in Green Bay, is 4-0 on Thursday Night Football.

Eagles Offense vs Packers Defense

The Packers defense looks very good so far this season giving up only 35 points total all season. Mike Pettine has this defense dominating so far but I would argue they haven’t really played that great of an offense. The Vikings maybe but they haven’t faced a quarterback like Carson Wentz or an offense like the Eagles. You have to remember the Eagles offense has struggled and made mistakes yet still is averaging 25 PPG so imagine if everything is clicking. The Eagles get Alshon Jeffrey back while the Packers are losing some good defenders to injury. This is a Doug Pederson game to find the matchups and if the Eagles can get 25 plus points they will a shot to win the game.

Eagles Defense vs Packers Offense

The Eagles defense looks awful so far this season both with the pass rush and the secondary. Despite a bunch of almost there stats we are being force fed the bottom line is they have given up 24 plus points per game and 881 passing yards in 3 games. The run defense seems okay but is that because it is so easy to pass against us? Aaron Rodgers and Matt Lafleur are still learning each other but seemed to get it going last week. Aaron Rodgers will eat this blitz alive so the Eagles will need a pass rush from the front 4. I actually think our coverage may be a bit better with Darby out due to injury. The Eagles defense needs to get a few sacks and hold their own to give the birds any chance to win this game.

Special Teams

The Eagles CANNOT give up points on special teams and expect to win this game. It would be nice if Darren Sproles or Miles Sanders could take one to the house as well. The Packers special teams was the worst last year so there is an opportunity to make a difference this week.

Final Score Prediction

Eagles 28 Packers 27
