Panther City Picks Up Record-Setting Win Over Vegas

It was a record-setting win for the Panther City Lacrosse Club as they routed the Las Vegas Desert Dogs 21-12 on Saturday night at Michelob Ultra Arena.

Callum Crawford had a career-high eight goals along with seven assists from 15 points, nearly breaking Mark Steehuis’s mark for 17 points. Crawford also had an NLL record with 12 points in the first half.

Will Malcom added four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Malcom and Callum combined for 29 points which broke the record for most points by two teammates in one game. The previous record was 26 points set in 2009.

Although Panther City has a short history, 21 goals in the game was a franchise record.

Panther City Jumps Out To A Big Lead

Panther City opened the game with a five-goal run. Crawford opened the scoring on the power play 2:31 into the game followed by Will Malcom one minute later.

Phil Caputo made it 3-0 at the 3:56 mark and Crawford had the hat trick with a pair of goals as Panther City was up 5-0 and there was still 8:12 left in play in the first quarter.

Dylan Watson got Las Vegas on the board with 7:05 left in the quarter. However, Mathieu Gautier, Will Malcom and Caputo rounded out the scoring as Panther City led 8-1 at the break.

Record First Half For Callum Crawford

Crawford and Will Malcom scored within the first 1:18 of the second quarter as Panther City took a commanding 10-1 lead.

Zack Greer finally got Las Vegas back on the board at the 2:23 mark. But life didn’t get any easier for the Desert Dogs.

Panther City went on a three-goal run with markers from Crawford, Caputo, and Jonathan Donville to put the Texas squad up by 11.

Greer found the back of the net for Las Vegas with 6:30 left in the first half. Panther City responded with Crawford scoring with 2:32 on the clock. Caputo rounded out the scoring on the power play with 54 seconds left to make it 15-3 at the half. With an assist on Caputo’s goal, it was Crawford’s record-setting 12th point in the first half.

PCLC Keep Rolling

If the situation couldn’t get any worse for Las Vegas, Panther City opened the second half with a three-goal run. Will Malcom opened the scoring 24 seconds into the third quarter. Crawford added two more and it was 18-3 for Panther City with 11:58 still left to play in the third.

Las Vegas grabbed a bit of momentum back. Casey Jackson scored with 9:27 left followed by Charlie Bertrand 1:01 later. Watson rounded out a three-goal run for the Desert Dogs with 7:25 left in the quarter to make the score 18-6.

Caputo struck again on the power play with 4:08 on the clock to put Panther City up by 13. Las Vegas finished the third strong with Watson scoring a pair of goals to make it 19-8 heading into the final frame.

Record-setting Win For Panther City

Jason Knox scored on the power play 50 seconds into the fourth quarter to make it 20-8. Another Malcom, this time Tony, scored with 7:50 on the clock to set a franchise record as Panther City went up 21-8.

Greer scored his hat-trick goal with 6:56 on the clock and that ended the night for Nick Damude as Panther City went with Cam McLeod to finish off the game.

Las Vegas finished the last three minutes with goals from Rob Hellyer, Bertrand, and Jackson. But it was Panther City that cruised to a record-setting win 21-12.
