The Panther City Lacrosse Club traveled to NYCB Live in Long Island to face the New York Riptide Saturday in Week 7 action. The Riptide picked up their first win of the season over Philadelphia last week. Panther City, meanwhile, was looking to snap a three-game losing streak. A breakout game for top 2022 draft pick Jason Knox (4g, 1a) lifted Panther City to a 14-12 win. They improve to 2-3, while New York falls to 1-4 on the season.

Donville’s hat trick gives Panther City slim halftime lead

Reilly O’Connor (2g, 5a; 2:38) opened the scoring for New York with a power play goal. From there, Jeff Teat and Jonathan Donville took over the quarter. Teat (4g, 2a) sandwiched two goals (5:51; 8:19 power play) in between Donville’s hat trick (4:07; 6:12; 9:23 power play) as the first quarter ended in a 3-3 tie. The second quarter remained tight, with Panther City outscoring the Riptide 3-2 for a one-goal halftime lead. Phil Caputo (1g, 1a; 1:40), Jason Knox (7:31), and Callum Crawford (3g, 3a; 12:30 power play) scored for Panther City. The Riptide countered with goals from Larson Sundown (2g; 5:50 power play) and Connor Kearnan (8:53).

Knox helps Panther City snap three-game skid

O’Connor (0:33) opened the second half with his second goal to tie the game, 6-6. But PCLC would break the game open with a four-goal run. Crawford (2:27), Liam Patten (4:48), and two more from Knox (5:20 power play; 7:15) put Panther City up 10-6. Teat went back-to-back (8:06; 8:34) to halve the deficit. Crawford’s hat-trick goal (12:11) briefly pushed the lead to three before Kiel Matisz (2g, 4a; 13:16) scored yet another power play goal for New York to make it an 11-9 game heading into the fourth quarter.

Another three-goal run by PCLC in the fourth quarter seemed to put the game out of reach. Will Malcom (1g, 3a; 7:04), Knox’s fourth goal of the night (8:02), and Tony Malcom (12:10, assist from goalie Nick Damude) put PCLC up five with less than three minutes to play. But the Riptide came charging back with three goals in a 55-second span. A dunk from Sundown (12:31), and goals from Matisz (12:58) and Kearnan (13:26) made it a 14-12 game with just over 90 seconds to play. However, PCLC’s defense stood tall, shutting down scoring the rest of the way for the two-goal victory.
