Penalty Troubles Cost The Thunderbirds Against San Diego

The Halifax Thunderbirds had penalty troubles as they dropped a 12-8 decision to the San Diego Seals on Saturday night.

Halifax gave the Seals 12 power play opportunities, which San Diego converted on seven of them.

One of the key matchups heading into the face was Trevor Baptiste and Jake Wither at the faceoff dot. It didnโ€™t disappoint. It was like two Rams locking horns.ย  Baptiste ended up having the slight edge, winning 13 of 25 draws.

Jacob Dunbar had a breakout game for the Seals with two goals and four assists. Dane Dobbie got back on track with a hat trick and nine points, while Austin Staats put up four goals.

Thunderbirds Look Good Early

Clarke Petterson opened up the scoring 4:25 into the game with a long-range shot that just beat Chris Origlieri.

Dobbie replied right back at 6:23 to tie up the game.

Aaron Woods took a feed from Wither at 8:49 as Halifax retook the lead 2-1. Then it was a wild finish to the first quarter.

Both teams combined for four goals in the span of 2:01. Cody Jamieson scored on the power play with 2.45 left on the clock to put the Thunderbirds up by two.

Only 41 seconds later, Jake Govett found the back of the net. Forty seconds after that Tre Leclaire tied it up 3-3.

Austin Shanks rounded out the first-quarter scoring with 44 seconds on the clock was the Thunderbirds led 4-3.

With 5:44 left on the clock, Ryan Terefenko found Petterson coming off the bench to get Halifax back on the board.
