The Philadelphia Union made their way to the Mile High City to take on the Colorado Rapids, who came into the matchup on a 7-game unbeaten steak. Philadelphia, on the other hand, was coming off their first road win of the 2023 campaign after securing a 1-0 victory versus the New York Red Bulls. Philadelphia snaps Colorado’s 7 game unbeaten streak and wins their first back-to-back games of the season.

Rough Waters in the Begining
The Rapids got a great chance to get on the board just 7 minutes into the contest. A shot by Striker Kevin Cabral from the center of the box was saved by 3x MLS Goalkeeper of the year Andre Blake. Just 8 minutes later, the Union saw their first chance of the game. Jack Mcglynn put a through pass forward that found Julian Carranza in the attacking third. A good close-out by the Colorado goalkeeper forced a shot just wide by Julian.
Trouble would strike Philadelphia in the 38th minute. A hard challenge by Damien Lowe on the edge of the box was called for a foul. After a VAR check, it was confirmed that the foul took place inside the box. Colorado was awarded a PK that Connor Ronan would bury in the back of the net to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. Not for long, though. The boys in blue would respond right before the half to tie the game at one piece in the 47th minute. A spectacular blast from outside the box by Kai Wagner found the back of the net for a beautiful DOOP.

Redemption
The Union would get their second doop quickly to start the second half. Jack Mcglynn put another beautiful pass over the top to Mbaizo, who cut it back to Carranza, whose strike found the back of the net to give Philly the 2-1 lead. A few moments later, Colorado got another great chance, but once again, Blake was there to shut the door and keep the Union ahead with 30 minutes to play. Philadelphia continued to shut down Colorado defensively, only allowing one shot on goal in the final 28 minutes of play. Philadelphia snaps Colorado’s 7 game unbeaten streak and wins their first back-to-back games of the season, both on the road.

The Boys in Blue have a tough week coming up with 2 games in the next 7 days. First, they’ll look to make it three in a row when they face D.C. United Wednesday 730pm at Subaru Park.
