Philadelphia Union Remains in the Top 5 Power Rankings After the Bye Week

The Philadelphia Union was the only team in last week’s top 10 that wasn’t in action this week. With big wins for teams like Real Salt Lake, Vancouver Whitecaps, and FC Cincinnati, can the unbeaten Philadelphia Union squad remain in the top 5 for this week’s power rankings? Let’s look at this week’s top 10 and find out.

10. Minnesota United FC

Minnesota dominated Charlotte early and often in this Sunday showdown. Goals from Oluwaseyi, Lod, and Dotson earned Minnesota 3 points and a spot in the top 10 of this week’s power rankings. They welcome Sporting KC this Saturday as they look to continue to rise up the standings. Last Week – Not Ranked

9. Colorado Rapids

The Rapids got some help from 2 own goals from FC Dallas’ Ibeagha and Jungua. Forward Petar Musa for FC Dallas added a late goal, but the Rapids held on for the win and 3 points. They visit FC Cincinnati this week as they continue to prove why they belong in the conversation of top teams in the MLS. Last Week – 10

8. FC Cincinnati

Star Midfielder Luciano Acosta led the comeback at Atlanta. Acosta had an assist and then a goal minutes later. After 2 straight losses, FC Cincinnati bounces back for 3 points. They will look to keep things rolling at home vs a strong Colorado Rapids team that won this past week as well. Last Week – 9

7. Vancouver Whitecaps

They are sitting in second place in the west after a 2-0 win at Seattle. Seattle finished this match with just 9 players because of red cards, which made goals by Gauld and White for the Whitecaps that much easier. A big-time matchup with the Red Bulls awaits them this Saturday. Last Week – 7

6. Real Salt Lake

It was a match in which Real Salt Lake was in control throughout, resulting in a dominating 4-0 win in Chicago. A rested Philadelphia Union squad welcomes them this week as they look to remain a top team in the West. Last Week – 8

5. Philadelphia Union

A week off for the only unbeaten team left in the MLS has them sitting in fifth place this week. Midfielder Gazdag will look to tie the franchise record in goals this week as the Union hosts Real Salt Lake in a west vs. east matchup. Last Week – 4

4. Columbus Crew

Columbus had to fight back not once but twice in their 2-2 draw vs Portland. Cucho Hernandez and Moreira helped the Crew battle back for 1 point. On Wednesday, Columbus has a bus week with leg one of the CONCACAF Champions Cup Semi-Finals vs Monterrey. Followed by a visit from Montreal on Saturday night. Last Week – 5

3. NY Red Bulls

NY earned a point on the road at LAFC this past Saturday night with a 2-2 draw. LAFC found the back of the net late in the 95th minute, preventing the Red Bulls from winning. NY will face Vancouver this week in a battle of second-place teams. Last Week – 3

2. LA Galaxy

In the 100th edition of the California Clasico, LA Galaxy walked away with 3 points to remain in first place in the west. 7 goals, a red card, and a penalty kick made this match a must-watch. LA looks to make it 3 in a row this week as they visit Austin FC. Last Week – 1

1. Inter Miami

Lionel Messi was just too much for Nashville tonight. After an early own goal from Miami’s Negri, Messi took over with 2 goals of his own and assisted Busquets on another. Messi and company travel to New England to take last place Revolution. Last Week – 2
