Phillies call up Alec Bohm
You read that right. The Phillies call up Alec Bohm. About time, right?
In all honesty, with first baseman Rhys Hoskins batting .190 and third baseman Jean Segura batting just over .200 for this season. It was a matter of time before the Phillies #1 prospect got the nod. Bohm is expected to take over one of the corner positions sooner than later I would assume. The real question to which players expense.
From the small sample, we have seen from Joe Girardi in a season one can only call, Bizarre. I really like what he has done so far. He wasted no time at all getting Spencer Howard up and getting him a spot start. Designated Nick Williams and Trevor Kelley to assignment. Sent noodle arm Nick Pivetta down to Lehigh Valley. Basically just cutting dead weight. They called up Connor Brogdon and Blake Parker for much-needed Bullpen relief. And now, of course, Alec Bohm getting the nod to make his impression felt.
They are currently sitting in 5th place in the N.L East at 5-8. With this being such a shortened season each loss is pretty much the equivalent of 3 losses. The Phillies have a lot of ground to cover if they even want a ballparks chance of getting in the Playoffs. They need all the help they can get. I have full faith in Joe Girardi. You are only as good as what you have to work this. He clearly sees his current setup isn’t getting the job done. Quick turnaround to get some of the Lehigh talent up here to see what they got. I applaud it. Something we’ve been asking for quite some time now.
Phillies continues their series with the Baltimore Orioles today at 4:05 pm
