Phillies Finally Making Moves? In a sudden change of events, it looks like John Middleton and the Phillies are now likely to move on from team president, Andy MacPhail.
According to Jayson Stark of the ‘The Athletic‘, the Phillies will start interviewing for a new president of baseball operations. Some familiar names, Pat Gillick, Charlie Manuel, and Terry Ryan have completed a list of potential candidates to “try to gauge the interest of a small group of experienced, highly regarded baseball people with proven, winning track records.”
MacPhail announced just a few weeks ago that after his current contract he was ready to walk away. However stated, if the Phillies found the right guy now he would happily step aside. Whether that was just lip service or not knowing the Phillies brass were going to start their search sooner than later is a thing of mystery. But, it doesn’t matter anyway. All that matters is Andy is gone. And that makes us happy.
It’s also unknown whether or not John will keep Andy around much like Matt Klentak. Klentak was relieved of his GM duties shortly after this season had ended to a lesser role still within the ball club. Once again, it doesn’t matter. MacPhail is out as President, Klentak is out as GM. Oh, Happy Day!
Now, they just gotta start to look alive in Free Agency. Maybe we can stand a chance at being a contender next season. That is a discussion for another day though.
