Will JT Be A Phillie For Life?
That fact that I even have to type this is ridiculous to me. There is absolutely no question at all whether or not the Phillies should give JT Realmuto a contract extension. To the point where it is laughable.
The Trade (2019):
The Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a trade for Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto for three players, top pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez, catcher Jorge Alfaro, lefty Will Stewart and an undisclosed sum of international bonus money

Matt Klentak can’t screw this up. Or should I say PLEASE don’t screw this up. JT is the best catcher in Baseball. No doubt. Not only can you see from his 2019 stat (above) that he was an instant upgrade to the everyday roster with his bat. His defense was above and beyond any other catcher in the league. by August Realmuto already had 35+ thrown out base-stealing attempt.
One of the biggest things we need to hope for is that the holdout on negotiations (and loss in arbitration) hasn’t left too much of a sour taste in JT’s mouth. The big offers will be out there for the All-Star Catcher. This we know for sure. It is now Klentak’s job to right this ship and do all in his power to fix the relationship and get JT signed on for hopefully the remainder of his career.
“I think J.T. is a great player. If the Phillies don’t end up signing him back, which would be terrible and sad, I think there’s a lot of other teams out there that are going to want to sign the guy. He’s a Gold Glove-caliber catcher every year, he’s a great person, a great player. I “mean everybody in this organization from the top down wants to see him in red pinstripes for the rest of his career, and hopefully we can make that happen.”
