Phillies Prospect Breakdown: Gabriel Rincones Jr, OF, Jersey Shore Blue Claws, A

The Player

the son of a former Mariners minor leaguer by the same name–has a game based around big-time power. His combination of size and strength produced high-end exit velocities. Including a 90th percentile mark of 106.3 mph. That was well above average compared to his peers in Class A. Drafted in the 3rd round (93rd overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022 (signed for $627,500).

Rincones Jr. was selected by the Phillies in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Out of Florida Atlantic University. Injuries kept Rincones on the shelf for all of 2022, but the 22-year-old made his pro debut earlier this year, skipping Rookie ball altogether.

Across 120 games between High-A Jersey Shore and Low-A Clearwater. Rincones slashed .248/.351/.778 and tallied 15 home runs and 60 RBI. The ball flies off the bat with easy power — a left-handed hitter who drove multiple baseballs over the right field fence on Roberts Field and some into the tree line before the hill bank that leads up to Route 19.

He has a “pretty lefty swing” using an old baseball term — no wasted motion and direct through the ball. Has the ability to drive baseball to all fields. He got off to a great start this season with Clearwater and was named the system’s player of the month for April. Promoted to Jersey Shore on 6/13/23 where his power swing continued to shine and finished in the Arizona Fall League becoming a league all-star.

Confident in his abilities, won’t be intimidated by any situation. He’s a better defender than described in pre-draft scouting reports, a smart player. Strong frame who’s a team leader, major league skill set.

Needs to Work on and master an approach each time he goes up to hit and have a plan, owning the strike zone.

Reading here he comes.
