Phillies Travel to Washington

The 2-4 Philadelphia Phillies travelled to Washington to face the 2-4 Washington Nationals. The Phillies took a 2-0 lead but couldn’t get the sweep on Sunday. Lets see how it all shook out.

Game 1 – Patrick Corbin vs Aaron Nola

Brandon Marsh got things started with sacrifice fly to left-center scoring Alec Bohm. A batter later and Kyle Schwarber smacked a 2 run single giving the Phillies a 3-0 lead. Stott and Castellanos scored on the play.

Aaron Nola pitched good going 5.2 giving up 0 runs and 4 hits. He did have 4 walks being pulled with a runner on in the bottom of the 5th. Patrick Corbin went 6 innings but was pulled after an RBI single by Bryce Harper scoring Kyle Schwarber. Matt Strahm, Seranthony Dominguez, and Jose Alvarado took the Phillies the rest of the way. They combined to strike out three and give up zero hits. Phillies took Game one 4-0, moving to 3-4 as the Nationals dropped to 2-5.

Game 2 – Ranger Suarez vs Jake Irvin

In the Top of the 2nd, Bohm tripled to right scoring Realmuto giving the Phillies the early 1-0 lead. In the third, J.T. Realmuto hit a 3 run homerun to left center field which went 390 feet. Trea Turner and Bryce Harper scored on the homerun.

Joey Gallo came right back in the bottom of the inning with a 2-Run homerun cutting the Phillies lead to just two. Both bullpens took it from there with zero runs scored until the ninth. In the top of that ninth, Brandon Marsh had an RBI single to center which scored Bryson Stott giving the Phillies an insurance run. Jose Alvarado shut the door in the ninth walking one but getting the save. Ranger Suarez got the win going 6 innings giving up 2 and walking none.

Flyers Let Early Lead Slip Away, Lose to Capitals

Game 3 – Cristopher Sanchez vs MacKenzie Gore

The Philadelphia Phillies came into Sunday with the Broomsticks out. They had hoped for the first opening road sweep since 2021 but the Nationals had other ideas. Edmundo Sosa started the scoring with an RBI Single scoring Whit Merrifield in the 2nd. The Nationals came right back when Luis Garcia Jr singled to left scoring Ildemaro Vargas. Tied 1-1 after 2, Nationals DH Joey Meneses knocked in Lane Thomas with an RBI Single putting the Nats back up 1. The final scoring of the game would take place in the 5th inning. In the top of the 5th, Edmundo Sosa struck again with a solo shot to center tying the game 2-2. The Nationals continued to win with small ball in the bottom half of the inning. Riley Adams hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Lane Thomas. The Nationals would would win this game 3-2 salvaging the series.

The Phillies pitching both starting and relief has done well since the first 2 games of the season. The Phillies, now 4-5, bats remain quiet but the team won the series.
