Philly Falls Short in Ottawa in OT

The Philadelphia Flyers head into Ottawa to face the Senators. They are coming off a four-game winning streak. The Senators are fresh off of a huge win over the Flordia Panthers. However, John Tortorella would be in the sky box alongside interim General Manager Danny Breier, so Brad Shaw would step in as the bench boss. The Flyers make the third period interesting. Unfortunately, Philly falls short in Ottawa.

1st Period

The Flyers start a little sluggish, making turnovers in the neutral zone. Brendan Lemieux goes to the plenty box. The Flyers struggling to make shots on net. Getting outplayed, Philly gives up a goal by Austin Watson, picking up the rebounding puck with traffic in front of Felix Sandstrom. Flyers through the bulk of this period were dumping and chasing. The Senators brought a lot of offensive pressure, but Felix Sandstrom stopped 16 out of 17 shots during the first. However, the Flyers only had two shots for the period.

2nd Period

Not a great start for the Ottawa Senators in the second stanza. Shane Pinto gets called for high sticking on Noah Cates. It would be nice puck movement between Kevin Hayes and Cam York, and then finding Tony DeAngelo makes a quick shot that puts the Flyers on the scoreboard.  Senators would answer back when Nick Holden shot from the blue line, and Tim Stutzle would redirect the puck into the net. A fight breaks out between Joel Farabee and Alex DeBrincat. The physicality continued between Nicolas Deslauriers and Mark Kastelic. They brawled up to the penalty box. Both Deslauriers and Kasteli would get a ten-minute misconduct. Ivan Provorov would get called for a tripping penalty.

Philly Falls Short in Ottawa

The Flyers got off to a bad start. Kevin Hayes caused turnovers in his defensive zone. Tim Stutzle finds a man down on the other side of the ice wide-open. It was former Flyer Claude Giroux, who hasn’t scored in his last nine games. He breaks that streak for the goal.

Morgan Frost takes a two-on-one as he makes a drop pass to Cam York to score a goal after being outshot by over 30. The Flyers start making a comeback. Ramus Risolainen makes a shot from the blue, and it redirects off of Noah Cates’s pants. Morgan Frost wins the battle against the boards, finding Travis Sanheim, who then makes a pass to Owen Tippet for the goal, tying the game up 4-4.

We go into overtime! Unfortunately, one bad mistake by Felix Sandstrom. He leaves the net to make a back pass but didn’t realize it was Alex DeBrincat who then gets a wide-open net. The Ottawa Senators win 5-4. Not much work for the Veteran goalie Cam Talbot only seeing 11 shots. However, the Flyers threw some tough goals to stop. The Flyers put up 12 points in their last seven games.
